I can’t seem to get the Marklin turntable 74861 working on Traincontroller while in cs3 plus it’s working perfectly. Is there’s way of configuring this in Traincontroller. Grateful for help on this.

Hi Sanjiv,

Please look at my article below

74861 TrainController Setup

PS. Are you the same Sanjiv that I answered on the Railroad & Co forum re the 74861?

Hi Ross,
Yes it's the same Sanjiv. I worked at getting the Turntable configured on your detailed instructions , but I got stuck at the macros probably due to lack of sufficient knowledge. However I'll try again. In the meanwhile what I was really hoping for was that Traincontroller came up with an update that would do integrate the Turntable automatically like it does the locos and other stuff.

Thanks a ton for you help. Will try again

Hi Sanjiv,

What TrainController version are you using?

How long have you being using TrainController?

What track are you using C-track or K-track?

It will be a long time before TrainController intergrates the 74861 to be automatic as it doesn't operate the same as previous turntables but with the tools TrainController provides you should be able to get it running as in my article where I also state you need to have advance TrainController skills, I can help you.

Hi Ross,

Yes I'm a newbe and totally confused. I am using Traincontroller Gold 10 and Marklin C Track. And I'm a beginner at Traincontroller. Just setting up a layout 14 Ft by 14 ft. and first time with a Turntable. While Ive been at at for some time with CS3 Plus have just moved to automation on Traincontroller Gold 10. What I really need is detailed step by step instructions on how to go about it. Your instruction are actually very high level meant for skilled users. Can you help me. Grateful if you can.

Hi Sanjiv,

I trust you are using the latest revision of TrainController 10 Gold which is TCG 10.0B3

You are on a large learning curve and need to get the basics correct before starting on a large layout with complex items such as turntables etc.

You need to know how to setup blocks and how many sensors (indicators) are required for each block.
Setting up multiple brake and stop markers without profiling your locomotives is very bad practice.

Once the blocks are tested the most important step is to profile your locomotives to obtain consistant control.

There are a number of steps to profile your locomotives.

1. Set the maximum speed of the locomotive decoder after doing a single speed step profile with occupancy sensors (indicators). you will have to repeat this process until you get the correct maximum speed of the locomotive set in the locomotive decoder.

2. With the maximum speed set you can then do a complete speed profile with occupancy sensors.

3. Brake compensation with occupancy sensors is the final step

Of interest see my article defining s88 contacts with TrainController and the CS3+

s88 contacts with TC and CS3+

Back to basics

Setup a simple oval with a bypass track (two turnouts) define the blocks with sensors (indicators) You need a block between the points to at least be 150-200cm. The block must have three (3) occupancy sensors. The middle sensor is your brake length and profiling length. The sensors at each end are your stop markers for the block. Repeat for the bypass track and the remaining loop that joins the turnouts.

In total you will have 3 blocks with 3 sensors in each block. In all cases the middle sensor for each block is you brake occupancy sensor with a measured length.

Now profile at least two locomotives as explained above.

Create a car (freight and or passenger) Each car represents the total length of the train excluding the locomotive length.
Assign a car to each locomotive and place in the blocks between the turnouts. One train should be facing the opposite direction to the other. When you hover you cursor over the train you will see the total lenght of the train.

Now you are ready to run trains by drag and drop or schedules. You will notice a well profiled locomotive slows down in the braking section of the block and stops just as it enters the stop marker, this will be consistant with either locomotive even if the maximum speed for each locomotive is different.

Once you have well profiled locomotives your decisions in how you define blocks will be easier for more refined train control.

Sanjiv I'm not sure at what knowledge level you are at with TrainController but the key is having well profiled locomotives before trying more complex train control.

I will send you an email asking for some more information.

Hi Ross, Thanks for your response. Yes Im using Traincontroller Gold 10 Ver 10.0B3. Truthfully I haven't done any profiling for the locomotives, but have now understood that profiling is perhaps the best for precision control. control. I have a layout with 30 Blocks. The station Blocks are long enough 110- 130 cms to contain an entire consist including the loco. The others are single track blocks more for direction and route setting . Layout.jpg
The above is a copy of my switchboard. Contact track.jpeg This is how Ive made many contact tracks. However for almost 6-7 Blocks I have used Marklin 24995 with cut tracks in between. Ive got about 22 Locos so Im going to start profiling them. It will take some time but will revert once done. In the mean while if you could also think about rendering help on simplifying the process of integrating the turntable would be grateful. Im really been on learning and getting this going

Hi Sanjiv,

Did you get my email requesting more information?
At which location are you intending to locate the 74861 turntable?

Hi Ross, I haven't yet received the mail asking for more information. The turntable is located at this location. In fact Block 16 is the Bridge of the Turntable.

Hi Sanjiv,

From your TrainController computer which direction do you view your layout?
Which block will you use for profiling your locomotives?

From the Email and PM buttons at the bottom of your post I have sent new messages.

Hi Ross

Above is the layout and how I view it. Profiling will start at block 1 and run all along the green markup in a clockwise direction (as depicted by the black arrows)

I will send you the Traincontroller file on the 16th as I’m travelling at the moment and don’t have access to my computer.

Feel free to email at any time. I’m starting the profiling from the 18th onwards and will keep you posted of the progress and perhaps ask for any clarification if I get stuck.

Thanks a ton for the interest shown
