Modification of a Märklin BR 89.0 - 30000 locomotive.

Recently I modified a Märklin 30000 locomotive, fitted it with LED lighting, 3 white LEDs and 2 red LEDs, both at the front and rear.
The driver's cab is illuminated with 3 white SMD LEDs and also 2 orange LEDs for the smoke box simulation effect are built in.

The modification itself is not expensive because I use the existing decoder in this locomotive. This has the inscription: KN160725A on the rear.

This type of MFX / DCC decoder is built into these 30000 locomotives by Märklin from around 2017.

All adjustments of the necessary CV values, as I have done myself, can be carried out with a simple Märklin MS2.

For this 30000 modification, check out this Dutch website, where everything is described in detail. Hint: Use auto website translation.

A detailed conversion description pdf in English can also be downloaded from this site.

Amazing upgrade, thanks a lot for your detailed explanation and the step-by-step guide.

BTW, is there a way to fit another decoder to this little loco? I'm thinking to put a Class BR.94 decoder to mine including the speaker but it seems literally impossible to fit on it due its limited space.

Also regarding the smoke generator, is there any way to protect the plastic case from being melted?

KR

Very good point indeed. I've searched and yes, they made it with item number 37068.

I'll take a look at the parts list / exploded view to see if I can identify those parts as available.

Thanks!
