Does anyone know where I can get a replacement motor for a Marklin Z 0-8-0 #88982. Not sure what the motor part number is but the earlier number was 211915 and the layshaft was part number 226940.

Hello, hope all is well. Welcome to the forum.

That is a great locomotive. I have the three pole version of this one. With so many drive wheels it is an interesting locomotive.

If you need the five pole motor, I have not been able to locate one at this time. The Marklin website says this motor is permanently not available. I found numerous part numbers listed with the 88984 model parts manual. It is similar to your model but a bit more current. It confirms that motor number.

The layshaft lists as available on the Marklin website if you need that. If you have a Marklin dealer they might be able to find the motor new in the secondary market and order that new layshaft. You should expect to wait a while and it may cost more than you expect.

If you don’t have a local dealer, it is possible assistance is available at:

Www.ajckids.com Or https://www.zscalehobo.com/. These are both reliable internet sellers.

These five pole motors have become scarce but occasionally are listed on eBay. eBay seller Marklinpro lists old z scale parts, you could ask if he has the motor because he is not currently listing this. Here is a link:

Even a three pole would get you moving until the correct part is located. Just let him know your model number. He normally answers quick.

Just to let you know, this motor replacement requires more advanced skills to successfully complete and may require soldering skills. This is true with most all zscale steam locomotives with few exceptions. How do you know the motor needs replacing? Sometimes a cleaning or new brushes will get it going again. Could you describe what symptoms you have observed? These small locomotives sometimes get locked up with hardened oil, cleaning might take care of this problem. If you do still need a new motor and you have what you need, just take your time and you will get it done yourself. I am not aware of someone who will do a motor replacement for you. We say “There is nothing easy about Z”. Expect some difficulties and surprises and try not to lose any parts.

Hope this helps. Best wishes on your search. If you come to a solution beside those I have mentioned, let us know.

Again welcome Take good care.
