Hello,

Does anyone who may own a 33021 (condensation tender) happen to know how to get the front traction tires off and be able to talk me thru it? I got the rear 2 replaced easy enough but I can't get to the bolt on the front wheel due to the running gear being in the way.

The manual should show the process for changing traction tyres.

There are no traction tyres on the front set of wheels (these aren't driven), but there are 4 on the rear set of wheels so I'm assuming you mean the front wheels of the rear driving set.

The process is the same for both front and rear as shown in the manual - you have to remove the bolt holding the driving rod to the wheel - use a 2mm nut driver.

After removing the bolt do not under any circumstances rotate any of the driving wheels as you will screw up the quartering of the driving rods. Unscrew the bolt, slip the new tyre inside the driving rod then put the bolt back in before you fit the tyre onto the wheel.

If the driving rod is in the way of the bolt then drive the loco forward a bit until you can see clear access.

The process in the manual only shows the rear 2 wheels, the front bolt is blocked by the running gear no matter how you have the wheels turned. I have the motor out because I'm upgrading this to digital so the wheels spin freely, I just can't get the nut driver on to the bolt. I'll post a picture of what it looks like later today. Jeff

note the positions of the gears etc and pull the running gear carefully back out of the cylinders and up, that should make you able to reach the bolts on the front wheels on the rear drive group.

Thank you. That's what I thought needed to happen but didn't want to try that without asking here first in case I was missing something simple. Jeff

note that a micro spanner should also work if it's small and thin enough, but getting the nut back on behind the running gear can also be a bit fiddly. I used the method I described above when I last serviced one of my two Br 53's.
