Drove my Vauban / NMBS (Roco # 74063 set) consist for the first time this morning on my K-track layout. These are my first ever Roco / 2 rail type coaches. I left the DC wheels under it and the original couplings as supplied from the factory, except one coupling on the first coach I switched with a M* KK coupling so i could hook it up to my HLE 16 lok. All went well, no derailments or uncoupling when "playing" around with them thru R1 curves and all kind of switches so far!
Now I want to install lights in them!
How do you guys solve the slider / 3e rail pick-up on these coaches? In all my other M* coaches I use current conducting couplers, wired up to the lok via a small relay to the lok, but this does not seem to be an option on DC coaches as far as I can see. I have lots of the copper wheel axle pick-up and sliders to tinker with, but do not see an easy way to put a slider under the boogie without heavily modifying it.... and even if I could, I do not want a slider under each coach....
Any idea is welcome!
Regards Jean-Pierre

Hi Jean-Pierre, It is not too difficult to install a slider on a Roco Eurofima coach. There is a little piece which replaces the plastic part holding the slider and that kind of clips onto the bottom of the bogie. You then run the wire into the coach through existing holes and mount the axle contacts for the return. Roco makes interior lights for these models as well, but you may choose to use other brands as well. Roco makes two and four pole current conducting couplers. My preferred single pole couplers are the Viessmann ones which are based on the Fleischmann Profi Couplers. You would still need to install axle contacts on each coach for the ground (return). Roco 40420: https://www.ewmb.de/imag...ges/RO40420_U01_1178.jpgYou can use any current conducting coupler, but unlike Maerklin coaches, for many, you would have to solder a wire to the coupler and to the light strip inside the coach. For a few of my installs, I managed to find RailTop's AC slider, which is the same one used by Roco as their "Flusterschleifer", but comes with a base plate that fits the underside of the bogies and can be screwed into it (rather than glued). I think the slider (with the Railtop base) have become hard to find in the interim. This one should work: Roco 40500: https://www.ewmb.de/imag...ges/RO40500_B01_7778.jpgAs long as it has the two holes for the pins on the underside of the bogie, it should work. Regards Mike C

Thanks for the tips Mike In the mean time I started to tinker around with them and was able to fit the M* axle contacts on the bogies with relative little need of modifications. I drilled a very small hole thru the shaft of the bogie to pass the wire to the inside. With some filling I was also able to fit the current conducting coupling from M* in the NEM shaft. Only need to solder a wire to them now and find a clean way to the inside of the coach. As with my other coaches, I will use a on-the-roll LED strip, with rectifier, resistor and capacitor for the lighting itself... Regards Jean-Pierre
