Hello all,
I understand this note may be a bit pedantic, but I happen to notice these things.

The new carset 42490 announced by Märklin is very nice (expensive at Ꞓ100 per car).
The set includes the PwPost4ü-28 four-axle baggage and combination mail car.
But I have a question for Märklin and for those who know about the history and markings on wagons and cars.

During the era II and the DRG prior to 1938, the Deutsche Reichspost was an entity of the German Government.
And this entity built and owned some of their own wagons and cars to run on the Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft (DRG).
However many of these cars built especially for postal traffic, were coloured green to run in passenger trains.
So they were lettered similar to passenger cars including the familiar eagle motif roundel.

But there was a difference in this roundel.
The post cars roundel lettering spelt Deutsche Reichspost instead of Deutsche Reichsbahn.
So is the Packwagen in this set to be lettered Post or Bahn??

I think i found the answer in one of my books.
I just checked my Wagner/Wagner/Deppmeyer book on the Deutsche Reisezugwagen and they give details on the PwPost4ü-28.
They say it was an asset of the DRG rolling stock especially used in D-Zuge and with a special POST section.
In another forum it is suggested the Post space in the wagon was charged to the Deutsche Reichspost as required.

I do like the carset to be produced by Märklin but the combination (no pun intended) of price and the lack of storage space for more models rather dampens my enthusiasm.

HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.
