Hello all,

I’m having something going on with my occupancy sensors. I use Marklin c-track and Marklin s 88’s. They have all worked perfectly, but recently, a few of the sensors are acting erratically. I have a total of three s-88’s all connected to each other then connected directly to the bottom of the CS3+.

Here are examples of what is happening.
1) When I first start up the CS3, one of the occupancy shows occupied, even though it’s not.
2) There are times when some sections show unoccupied but are they are occupied. Other times they work fine.
3) There are times a section will correctly show occupied but after the train has left still shows occupied.

These are happening on at least 4 of the sensors so I do not think it’s a “track” or connection issue. The sensors acting up are all connected to one particular s-88.
I’m thinking maybe the s-88 needs to be “re-set” or “re-started” if there is such a thing? Is it possible that the s-88 is bad, corrupt?

Love to hear any ideas or similar experiences.

Thanks for reading

One of the issues occasionally reported of ground track occupancy sensing is loss of isolation caused by track expansion. First thing I would do is check to see if the problematic contact tracks have that issue. All you should need is some kind f continuity tester.

I have experienced similar features (1) on C track contact tracks, where the edge of an isolated rail all of a sudden touches a ground rail and (2) when a diode within the S88 ”diode trick” has broken.

Thanks rhfil and PeFu. Upon inspection it is exactly what you mentioned. I have my c-track ballasted and loosened the sections up and adjusted the track and all back to normal. Thanks for the tip! Happy New year!
