What a great locomotive and car set!
I just wish there were some more coaches, possibly a diner or sleeping car. Is there any possibility that we might see additional cars?

The PwPost4ü-28 from the car set 42490 is the interesting item, since it is a new mould from Marklin. Previously available from Fleischmann but sold out everywhere, so Marklin has capitalized on its demand.
The AB4 wagons from the set are of course the DRG Ep IIb version of the group 29 wagons that Marklin released as a new mould in the Ep IIIa set 2023 insider 42529.

If you want a longer train, there are many existing suitable models from Marklin and others.
Some Pikes would go well, though I'd avoid the Marklin version with its many flaws and go Roco 45443/4/5 sleeping car 45446 and 45438.
Polish pikes in Ep IIb from Brawa should be coming soon as a model but even better would be the steel Prussians - Brawa 45419, 45420.
I am sure marklin will also release the WR4u-29 in Mitropa Ep IIb version soon as they just finished their new mould so they will make it in other variants - as you say possibly as an add-on set.

I just did a quick search for this picture from 1935 (same year as Marklin has chosen for their set) with a BR01, showcasing the lovely variety in express trains.
A quick look at the picture I can see a steel pike (group 26) in 3rd, Prussian dining wagon in 5th (maybe teak panelled) and a Post4ü-a/17 at the front. The rest do appear to be group 29 wagons.

The newly delivered 01 145 was part of the Nuremberg Central Station depot since June 4, 1935. On June 14, 1935, it hauled the international express train D 40 in the Loquitztal near Unterloquitz. (June 14, 1935) Photo: DLA Darmstadt (Bellingrodt)

Great photo thanks Eric.
Epoch II replication of this type of train can be done.
But just to clarify the beginnings of this post, we are talking about the new car set 42490 announced by Märklin.

The steel pike (group 26, 3rd from the front of the train) was available from Lima in a set 149762K and individually as 309085K prior to the Hornby takeover.
And I believe you can buy them now in the Rivarossi brand as HR4046.

The Prussian dining wagon in 5th (maybe teak panelled) has been done by Trix International (Express), Märklin, Liliput, and Schicht.

The Post4ü-a/17at the front is available second-hand as Fleischmann 5079 pre-kinematic coupling times.

The photo location near Unterloquitz is the same from a different vantage point, of an express train with diners and sleepers behind a new E19 in 1938.
Sorry I dont have a link.

That 42490 set is theoretically a 'wing' train isn't it? ( I won't use the K-word). So it can be run as is or in a longer set.

I have the FLM post/pwg and I find it a bit big. Pretty sure I have the modern Roco version of the full post car, or something very similar.

I'd like to see a few more of the new 28 carriages, but afaik these are the first DRG variations. I don't think they've issued any 4ü-28s in DRG form since the old 42751 set.

I thought the DSG diner in the insider set also new tooling. Have they done a diner in 4ü-28 before?

Hello Vinedusk,
The WR4ü has been done in sets #43256 and #43290.
Though this is the Schürzenwagen version either 35 or 39.

Certainly the WR4ü in Insider set #43233 is depicted as a Group 29 car, the obvious differences from the later WR cars are the inset doors and straight roof ends rather than the bow end.
Yes a DRG version would be nice, but at my level of modelling the 35 or 39 versions are satisfactory.

Märklin did attempt (sort of) a dining car in a set which would perfectly satisfy a Group 29 car for my type of modelling.
It is almost impossible to get, and came from set 29845.

I think they already have done the new mold for the restaurant car as part of the insider set from 2023:

These cars are from the second DRG carriage programme.

As to the car in position five (in the prototype photo), it seems to have a clerestory roof.
If it is painted red and it does look like it, then it may be a Mitropa sleeper.

Roco did the DRG postwagon as model 45448.
FLM did the DRG Post/Pwg as model 563604.
FLM did the WR4u-28 in 1935 livery as model 563303.
