Parts for Marklin, 42179, Express Train Cab Control Car Or Marklin 42177

I need some help in finding the part number for the front “clear plastic light tubes”, “Plow” and “Buffers” for these cars. I can’t tell which one I have at they seem to look and are described identically.

• How do I tell which one I have, 42179 or 42177.


• Are there replacement parts for either?

The good news is that the cars run fine, forward and backward.

The 42179 was the model with the so-called ICN livery (2002-2020)
The 42177 is the model with the current livery (with the <+> marking on the cab end and red doors)

I don't know if there are any differences in the internal design of the two models.
I know that the first version from the 42169 set (similar to 42179) had issues with the light glowing through the shell.

The light channel, buffers and plow for these models should be available from Maerklin.

You can ask the seller if he can get the other parts as well.

A new coach is around $110. If the parts plus shipping comes close to that, it may be cheaper just to replace the whole thing, especially if you find a used 42179 on eBay or similar.
