Hi everyone.

I've recently emigrated from the UK to Australia, and now that I'm retired I'm in the process of reassembling my Marklin HO railway. I've got a lot of old Marklin technology, including K83 decoders.

I've treated myself to a new CS3+, and I've been adding articles. When I added my first semaphore home signal 7041, I can set the address for the first K83 output pair, and the third output needed by the signal is automatically assigned to the next decoder address (the green output). Exactly the same happened for the second 7041 that I added, so I'm left with two red outputs that I can't use. I haven't got any solenoid devices that can use those spare single outputs (e.g. decouplers), and as I only have a limited number of K83 decoders, I was hopping to manually assign the second 7041 signal to use the spare red output left by the first one. I can't see any way of doing that.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way in which I can manually assign the single output colour need for the 7041 semaphore signal?

Thanks in anticipation.

Jerry

Hi Jerry
There is no problem to further use the "left-over" of the 3-position signal by over-installing a decoupler on the empty space.
You probably will have a warning that the address is already used (red address number instead of a black one) but this is OK.
A bit of warning using old K83 on large layouts: they are perfect to drive the 7051 crane or decouplers but on a regular solenoid article, if they miss the message to turn OFF they will remain ON forever until the solenoid burns and the output transistor burns as a consequence.
Best of wishes for your installation in Australia from a Frenchman who initially planned to emigrate to Australia (in 1970) but was turned down. Instead I turned out to be an Engineer working in the USA, Canada, China, Germany, Taiwan. No regrets all this life was fun with a wonderful wife who left me after 51.5 years of love.
Cheers
Jean

Not a lot of single slot options except uncoupler that Jean describes. However, I'd avoid address conflicts in cs3 and leave one port unused. Get another k83 (or newer version m83) for additional signals/switches.

Thank you Jean & Ben for your answers, and general advise on using old K83s. I will have to dig deep in my pocket and purchase some M83s & M84s, I think.

I'm new to this user group, and I'm impressed with the volume of interesting information and useful tips, not to mention the great help given by guys like you,

All the best.

Jerry
