Inquiring on the E226940 worm-gear for Z-scale.

226940_zsh_3.jpg

Is this worm-gear suitable for the BR 50 (Märklin 8154) steam locomotive ?

I haven't been able to find info on this, nor an exploded parts diagram.

Any help if it's compatible with the BR 50 (Märklin 8154) is much appreciated.

Many thanks

If you search on Marklin's website, you should be able to download a PDF of an exploded diagram of your loco. The diagram will list the part numbers too.

It's not straightforward to find the exploded diagrams, but they do exist!

Hello hope all is well.

I could not locate any information about your exact model, but I did find a Br 50. Here is a five pole locomotive which might be like the one you have.

A Br 50 is a Br 50. I am not aware of a major modification or update with this model (until the coreless motor). The parts shown (#7)may be exactly what you need. I always thought this gear was the same on all locomotive, but I am probably wrong.

Here is the parts manual.

https://www.maerklin.de/...lnummer=88842&lang=2

I also found a listing for the gear in your photo on zscalehobo website. In fact the photo showing your gear is exactly the same as the one posted. The description does not mention your locomotive number. It might not work on yours.

You might want to contact https://www.zscalehobo.com/. To confirm that you need part #7. Incidentally, this is a very difficult install process, but not impossible.

Take good care.

Thanks, I've tried searching everywhere, but still can't find an 8154 exploded diagram.

Seeing as the 8154 is an older 3-pole design, and that the 8883 and 8884 are very similar, I'm inclined to say that the 8154 is using the same worm gear as the 8883/8884, the E268880 part.

The E226940 might not be compatible.

The search continues...

All the 3/5 pole br 50s use the same fundamental mechanical parts, so the 8884 is a good alternative to get parts info from.

Märklin sometimes don't publish the exploded diagrams for all versions of a locomotive class they produced, forcing a bit more research sometimes.
