A couple of weeks ago i was in Innsbruck where my son took me to the Märklin dealer.
They had a selection of Z but about the same amount as Gaugemaster of Ford has.
Amongst the locos on display was the 88569 platinum plated CEIII Swiss Crocodile produced for the 50th anniversary of Miniclub. This had escaped my notice up until then so whilst the rest of the family were engaged elsewhere I returned and bought it.
It weighs in at 42.1 grams and runs very nicely on my 145mm radius test track.
Yesterday I went down to Gaugemaster to pick up my insider ETA 150 battery powered railcar and trailer which also runs on 145mm - unlike a couple of 2-10-0s that I bought earlier this year. Again very pleased with these railcars, the motorised one 32.3 grams and the trailer 30 grams. There are instructions to remove the bodies to access switches to turn off intermediate tail and headlights when coupled together but so far the bodies have resisted being removed, all I managed to do was dislocated one of the wheelsets on the trailer - very easy to do.
I had been put off by the pair of 2-10-0s not working on 145mm radius track - again no mention of a minimum radius anywhere - but the latest purchases have renewed my interest.

Wow, nice buy on the 88569. Exciting stuff. I have a couple of Crocs and they run very well. 145mm radius track is very tight but also the Marklin minimum standard for Z. I thought Marklin will say if their locos are not able to negotiate it but a quick search shows the 88976 2-10-0 does not mention a track radius limitation. Hopefully one of our experts will chime in here.

Glad you're happy with this model. I have one coming via a slightly unconventional route as I am not a club member, so hope to be testing it for myself later in the week!

Cheers

Hello hope all is well.

Nothing like a new purchase to renew the Z spirit. Nice to run into a few different models.

I have the early version of the Croc and I expect the extra weight of your version should make long pulls easier. There is so much going on when this model is in motion. I am certain you will find it an excellent addition. I wonder how the weight of this one compares to the others.

I also was excited to be able to get the 88250 ETA also in an unconventional manner also. It hasn’t showed up here yet. I just love those railbus types. This set has the look and features which should set it apart from others.

I also had some good fortune recently when I was able to get an exact replacement to a a wagon I sadly dropped and broke a while back. This was a 25 year old Mhi set (81411, HEG) and each wagon was uniquely numbered and I never thought I would find it. What luck to wait it out and finally replace it.

These types of experiences renew us all and I am glad to hear of your good fortune.

Take good care.

Firstly, thanks for weighing these. I do keep a record of locomotive weights, as you probably remember, so it's good to be able to add more data to the spreadsheet.

My own ETA 150 was delivered today and I, too, am very pleased with it - very attractive and runs smoothly. Like you, I have had no success in removing the body shells, and like you did disengage one of the trailer bogies in my attempts to do so! There really is nothing to get hold of to remove the body, is there?!

It is curious that Marklin opted to make the trailer chassis from metal with all the extra dead weight that brings. At first I thought it was a common part with the motorised car, but I can see it is a different casting altogether. No matter, there's no problem hauling the thing up and down my quite gradient ridden layout, so all is good!

Cheers

I am surprised by the total length and indeed the weight of the trailer car.
Pleased with the detailing and overall quality.
