As I was changing the traction tires on my 37550 the blue wire broke off from the pick-up bridge on the loco frame (not at the decoder). No problem; re-soldered it. As I was changing the traction tires on the other side I noticed the black wire came loose. No problem; re-soldered and put the loco back together. Now the loco only runs forward even when I put my MS2 into reverse. Everything else is fine. Go figure. I checked continuity with my meter and found no short. Maybe I smoked the decoder? The color order on the terminal is RED, GREY, BLACK, BLUE, GREEN, BROWN. I checked with my loupe and all the connections seem OK. Any ideas? Thanks! |

How long did you owned this locomotive? Did you check if you didn´t switched wires in wrong way? |

That Goofy, or just a tiny bit of too much solder may have caused a short to the bogie. Any buzzing when trying to chabge the direction?

Thanks for the suggestions guys; kind of what I was thinking.
I did solve my problem though. I un-installed the loco from the MS2 and then re-installed. BINGO! Runs like a champ.
I would still like to know what happened but I'll take the win. These digital locos are like computers; when there is a glitch in the software reboot the system first and see what happens!
Thanks guys! |

Yes, a cold reboot is usually the best thing. Maybe newer decoders trip an internal safety protection mode in the event of a short circuit and go to sleep or partially.
