So I recently bought the Trix Flying Scottsman and I realized that the engine sounds for function 2 will not stay on with my Digitrax Zephyr. Luckily I don't have a dedicated layout set up yet, so I'm not too attached to the system right now. After some digging, I came down to two possible solutions if I want to run my train at my local club with uses Digitrax:

1. Buy a marklin programmer/system and remap the functions so I can have the engine sound and chuffs on without mashing down on the 2 function.

2. Replace the whole decoder with one by ESU.

My first question is can I remap the functions using the Marklin decoder programmer which only cost under $100 without investing in buying a $700+ command station? If not, will an ESU Loksound v5 decoder will be compatible with Trix locomotives and I'll be able to access functions like smoke? Thanks for any advice.

1. Marklin decoder programmer won't work, for your requirements.

2. the extra challenge here will be the SUSI module and perhaps the dynamic smoke generator..... Does ESU even have a flying Scotsman sound project?

If you need to remap/reconfigure, then the best option would probably be if you know someone with a Märklin CS3?.

That's something I'll have to bring up to either a local hobby shop or my local club. But I guess if I'm going to collect more Trix models, then I'll have to invest in the command system anyway. Also ESU does in fact have a Flying Scottsman sound project.Thanks.

Hi,

A lok function can normally be set to be toggle on/off or momentary in your DCC controller. Please check in your controller. Momentary setting is often used for horns etc.

Just a tip, Peder

UPDATE: I did some research and I might be able to simply buy an ESU mobile throttle and run Trix locos off of that. My only question then is whether or not I can change the address using the throttle or another system altogether.
