Hi All,

I have two questions about the connecting rod pins on the Marklin 8807 model.

1. Are the pins simply press-fit into the drivers or are they screwed? I assume press-fit but wanted to confirm before disassembly.

2. Why is the 2nd driver pin set out further away from the driver center? I see the main drive rod is bent to allow it to clear that 2nd wheel pin, but why? Is it to allow more "slop" in the system for freedom of movement?

I'm building valve gear on this mechanism for Nn3 modeling. It's a Baldwin southern style valve gear. I'm considering building new main rods and filing that 2nd drive pin down so it sits closer to the driver center. Not flush, but less play than from Marklin.

Thanks!

I don't have the 8807 model, but I do have the small 260 class shunter which has coupled wheels. The pins are press fit. They are a very tight fit, so be prepared for a struggle! I found that using my finger nails was more effective than tweezers to extract the pins. But maybe very small pliers would be better.

Thanks! That's very helpful information! I'm not to the point of messing with the pins yet, so I haven't dug in. Glad you replied!
