Hello all,
This is my first post on the forum and I am not that experienced in locos yet.

So my question is that in my Märklin H0 28531 set the BR 184 loco has a 4 switch DIP switch. It had all switches set to OFF. In the manual that comes with the set is said that the default address for this loco is 41 for digital systems. However that is only for 8 switch DIP switches. The article number is found in the database of my MS1. I changed the address to -2-4 (20) so that it isn't all OFF. When I add the loco from the database it doesn't work, probably due to the address not being the default. I can add the loco with the address (20). Is this the only way to add the loco to a system?

This might be an extremely dumb question, sorry in advance.

PS: Is promoting your own ebay page allowed in forum posts, as a side note in a question of course.

Best regards,
Aleksi

If the model is in the database, it will be listed with the default address as listed in the Maerklin instructions. The delta version with all switches off should be in analog mode. I don't remember if the model had one set of instructions for the digital (26531) and delta (28531) versions or whether it came with different instructions for each model. The Digital version might have come with 41 as the default. Delta allows you to choose one of 5 possible addresses (78/72/60/24/80) for operation with the delta controller. There are additional addresses that can be used with a 6021, mobile station or central station. As you said -2-4 should work with the address 20.

You can try selecting the 28531 from the database. You will then have to edit the locomotive entry so that the address is changed to 20.
As the delta models don't have much in terms of user adjustable settings, you can manually enter a new MM locomotive with the address 20 and it should respond to that.

On controllers that work with mfx/dcc/mm, you have to make sure that mm (maerklin Motorola) is enabled.

I never bought a MS1 or CS. I have the 6021 and two MS2 controllers.

I hope that this info is helpful to you

If any of our MS1 experts can provide more precision on registering a delta locomotive on that controller, it would probably help Aleksi more than what I contributed.

Regards

Welcome to the forum!

The factory default address for set 28531 is 24.
When you select 28531 from the database, the MS1 will use the address 24, but you can change it to any address you like. Delta decoders usually support 15 addresses only without soldering and 80 addresses with soldering.

Sometimes a single Märklin loco leaflet covers four or more ref. numbers - the address 41 you mention probably refers to a model with a different ref. number. Could be the 26531 with 8 DIP switches.
Regards
Tom

Hello Aleksi,
There is no restriction on your posting links to websites generally.
Of course that would not include access to websites that promote politics, religion and some other subjects.

I am not one of the moderators, but this is what I think.
You can promote your own ebay page as a link (Best if you use the Buy/Sell topics), or include it in your own profile here.
Go to My Dashboard at the top of the Forum page.
My Dashboard > My Profile > Edit Profile ... and you will see a field allowing you to include your own URL.

Hi Aleksi
A warm welcome to this great forum. As you know, there are no dumb question but sometimes, dumb answers.
In complement to the very rich answers provided I will add a "Bible" Märklin has prepared for us to gather all the different ways to configure all Märklin decoders (Delta, Digital, switch decoders, etc ALL is there
Codiertabelle= Coding Tables

Thank you all for the replies. I understand better now and got the loco to work. I am selling my father's collection of mostly märklin model trains, so if anyone is interested feel free to check out my ebay site which I will put in my profile info.

Best regards,
Aleksi
