Hello,

I recently purchased a new uncoupler C track (24997) and I am having some trouble getting it to work. I'm currently testing it with some old cars I have with relex couplers. The track will actuate but it does not seem to have enough strength to decouple the cars.

I also have an old uncoupler M track (5112) that I was able to connect to the newer C track with adaptors. This uncoupler track works fine and there are no issues uncoupling any of my cars with it.

Is it possible the new track I purchased is defective? Or is there something that I could be doing wrong? I'm using mobile station (60657) with the digital connector box (60116) that came with it. I also setup both uncoupler tracks in analog mode.

Hi SBNY99 (a first name would be great)

I use 24997 for quite a while and they work quite well but have limitations:
- they include a thermal protection unit (will switch off if operated for too long)
- they work well on both Relex and short couplings (KK) PROVIDED the couplings are not in tension (not pulling the train but rather pushing it)
- when operated automatically the best is a short couple of activations
- some Märklin locos make the uncoupling almost impossible (snow blade, etc)
- combinations of old Relex metal couplings and new KK may cause problems, especially if the metal hook is bent too much inside
- height of couplings must be verified as, some cars may have a very low coupling.

Here is an automatic Hump yard on my layout to illustrate this using Rocrail and an home made IR beam to detect the couplers

I have five 24997 uncouplers, all operated automatically all work very fine but, sometimes are very noisy.

That's awesome and thank you for the reply! Here's a short clip of my old uncoupler (5112) and the new uncoupler (24997) I just recieved.

I can hear the solenoid work well in my old track but the new one actuates but does not seem to have enough strength to uncouple the cars. I've tried a bunch of times but no luck. I was hoping it might have been something I was doing wrong but I think the problem might be with the track itself.

I think there is an issue with the uncoupler or with its control unit.
Does it dol the same when you connect it directly to the transformer or the rectified digital power?
It lokks like there is a bad connection somewhere.

I thought maybe it could have been a connection issue as well. I tried connecting it directly to the transformer power but no luck. The track acts the same way. I'm going to see if I can get a replacement.

I am not sure why but my 24997 uncouplers are much louder. There is a lever on the side of the 24997. Have you tried operating it to see if it uncouples cars? And have you checked the voltage? Perhaps the setting is too low?

The speed at which the wagons separate from the train seems to be pretty high. Is that just an incline and gravity?

It is by gravity (2% grade) and a precise uncoupling moment whch push the wagon away
