Good evening, I would welcome the thoughts of members with more knowledge of couplers than I.

I have a number of locos with Telex couplers, but when I try to couple them with coaches and wagons fitted with standard close coupler heads, the loco tends to part from the wagons within a short space.

I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions as to what might be wrong.

Many thanks

If you ensure that the loop from the car/coach is hooked to the locomotive and not the loop from the locomotive that is hooked to the car/coach, you will have fewer problems

If the first car/coach is equipped with a NEM socket, you can replace the head with a 72060 which might improve the operation.

Thank you Mike. I will try and see which way round the loco is connecting, but it can be difficult to see :).

I might get a couple of the 72060 and test them !!

I believe that the key factor is the generation of the telex in the locomotives. I only have 3 telex locomotives from 2011, 2015 and 2020. None works with Relex couplers. And must say that previous generation of telex (the one of 2011 and 2015), works better than current generation.

Sometimes when I have issues with a particular wagon, I just put a new standard close coupler, which normally solves the problem.

At the end the only advice that I can really give is trial and error.

The only locomotives I have with telex coupler are fitted with the latest generation of telex couplers and they also work with Roco's universal couplers (like Roco 40395) as well as with the standard Marklin short couplers. So trying Roco couplers probably wont be much better in your case.
