Hi Mille
The 24740 is a 3 rail crossing with both tracks totally insulated.
In analog operation (with transformers) or in early digital (no galvanic separation like with 60212 and 60213) then you may need a total insulation on both the track part and the stud part.
In all other cases, the brown cable makes your wiring easier because all grounds (CS3, Booster, etc) may be tied together
