I did notice that both steam locomotive does not have same motor yet it is same body design and under frame like wheels too. 38940 are new 2023 without digital couple while the old 37180 is the older model new 2020 with digital couples. I am disapointed that Märklin did put a better motor this time and i believe that the older model did not worked well on the track. But why this time with out digital couple? The new 38940 are more expensive too. |

Interesting observation Goofy. If the previous motor in the 37180 was not good, then it’s great they have changed it. Not having the telex coupler is a bit disappointing though.
Cheers…..

I think the problem with the motor was in 37160 not 37180. Anyway there is only a price increase mainly because of inflation. |

I have the 37180 and works quite well on the track, considerable better than the average steamer (thanks to the 5 axis with relatively small wheels). Concerning the new model for the BR 094, I do not understand why Märklin is releasing shunters without telex couplers. At least me personally will never buy one which has no telex. And this I can extend to the 39249 (DB 249) Edited by user 14 May 2024 22:19:41(UTC)

I have some locos with telex, but don't use those couplers for shunting. Therefore I'm reluctant to buy more locos with telex. It makes locos expensive and I don't use them anyway. A bit like digitally raised pantographs: I don't use them and they make locos more expensive and more fragile. |
