I recently acquired a vintage Marklin HO passenger car, model 342. The wheels are in sorry shape and I need to replace them. Does anybody know the part number of these blunt axle wheels and where I might find them?

HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge. |

I think if the wheels are just oxidized and dirty, you may clean/polish them with metal polisher paste. If they are broken or have shape distorted, then, yes, it is better to get new ones. Just my 2 cents.

From what I can see the 342 wagon is late pre-war or early post war series. The wheels for these types were the blunt thick end original Type, D12 in Dia. The spares numbers for these were 700000 700010, disc and spoked when still in stock up to around the 1960's, since not made anymore. Marklin went to the pinpoint and small diameter rod types hence and these became the standard. There many versions starting from 700020, 700070, 700150 etc which are available, however would not be suitable. Best to find a scrap coach of the period with similar wheels and use those. Alternatively the wheels are available from https://ttn-shop.com/marklin-part-list_342.phpAs said most wheels can be cleaned, they are very robust, which is your best option. David

Thanks for everybody's help. I ended up finding an old passenger car that is in sorry shape, except for the wheels and I just swapped the wheels out.
