Dear all

I have an old analogue Marklin HO 3013 BR1100 NS electric locomotive that is dead after being in storage for 5 years. The reverser mechanism moves and hums when reverse current is applied by the transformer....but the lights don't flash. I believe no voltage is going to the motor..... but I am unsure how to test this. I have replaced the brushes and cleaned the slider and the wheels and oiled the motor. Does anyone have a wiring diagram of this locomotive. On another note can this locomotive be converted to digital.IMG_7895.jpegIMG_7894.jpeg

Many thanks

Andy

Hi Andy
I like those locos and mine is a 3013 from 1957. There are indestructible
Here is the wiring diagram that I modified to include the directional lighting (in blue and red)
The diagrams is owned by https://www.toottoot.co.nz/

Since in your case the relay switches over but no lights and no motor, one possibility is the drum of the relay is not connected to ground but the relay is.
Here is the "wippenrelais" used on your loco (left side of page)

Note that the drum has a screw to connect it to the axle and to the frame ground (see lower left of picture)

Other possible cause is a broken wire somewhere
Cheers & good luck with your repair
Jean

Jean has given you excellent information to debug your running problem.

As to converting the loco to digital, this is certainly possible. To do so will need a decoder kit and a motor kit. I'm not sure exactly which motor kit is recommended for this loco.

Great loco you have there.

I have one of these. Does your's have the manual trigger for direction change? It should work as follows. Forward, Stop (with lights), Reverse, Stop (with lights), Forward... etc

In the meantime, try using the manual reverse tab to see if it changes anything. The relay may be stuck and using the manual knob may unblock it

Best regards

Agree with Jean,

this loco will never die.

you can check also this point :

short.jpg

This is the plate that brings current to the light bulbs.
Seems very twisted and can create a short circuit with the metal chassis.

Best Regards

Hello Andy !
The problem may be on the directionswitch. It loks that the contactplate on top is bent up and therfor no contact for the motor. This is a common problem ,but it can be a problem to adjust it correct again.
You must be very careful by doing it,this thin metal will easily break.Maybe that this is the problem here. This contact is driven by the switch arm that goes in and out and lift the
contact arm (in center) on and off.Its this arm that is bent up.This solution was made for smother change of direction.

Best of luck kaav800

Dear All

Just an update.... I found two issues....
1) The copper brush did not have good contact with the motor drum..... replacing the brush fixed the problem.
2) The contact plate was bent on top of the reverser mechanism. If pressure is applied downwards on the plate contact is made and the locomotive moves and works. At the moment I am trying to fiddle/bend it to get it to work all the time. It is quiet tricky to do. Can you purchase another contact plate or is it a new reverser mechanism?.

Many thanks for your continuing help on this problem.

Regards

Andy

hi again !!

Have a videolink here.Late in this movie there is a switch like yours,it dosent show any adjustment for the part witch is bent, but maybe you can se how it should be here.
https://www.google.com/s...db2,vid:T1F7J6CS55g,st:0 There is a knob on the arm that goes in and out that should lift the contactplate up when changing direction. Hope it can help Smile
