Hello forum members, this is my first post.
I am setting up a Marklin C-track layout and have recently purchased some Marklin LED station lamps (article 72810).
I can get these to work on 16V AC (with flicker) but they're supposed to be OK with 12V DC but they don't work for me.
Do I need to solder a resistor to one of the wires? I'm sure the answer is somewhere in this forum, but if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great....thanks.

Hi Peter
A warm welcome to our great community.
Here a fervent Märklinist HO digital from Ile de France (near Paris)
Here is a glimpse of my C-Track layout

I don't have any Märklin recent LED lamp units. They use LED (of course sorry) and include a resistor.
If powered with DC source it will not work unless the polarity is right.
A 16 VAC LED should work with 12VAC but only less luminous.
Adding a resistor will reduce the current and dimm further the brigthness so not a good idea
When using 16 VAC a rectifier bridge (4 diodes) and a capacitor will remove any flickering but you may have to include a resistor in series to reduce the current.
16 VAC when rectified gives 22.6 VDC so a resistor of 560 Ohm or 1 kOhm in series could help.

I hope to see your project sometimes

Cheers
Jean

Hi Jean and thanks for your welcome & detailed advice.

I like the video of your excellent C-track layout, you've certainly got the lighting on the platforms well worked out!

Your mention of polarity solved the problem with my Marklin LEDs. I had been following the same yellow/brown protocol as my Faller lights, but I reversed that et voilà!

Cheers

Peter
