Hello! I recently purchased a Spur 1 5713 and it looks gorgeous. i believe it is AC, however. I Hear people are saying to use Diodes to convert to DC? I Can do diodes if needed but have no clue on how. i do not use DCC controls, only DC. if someone could please assist me on either, Thank you! i would rather not buy a decoder.

I'd be quite surprised if this loco were using AC at all. I've seen an advertising (in German) for this loco stating it is DC. Try applying a small DC voltage across the wheels. Do they spin in the opposite direction if the voltage is reversed?

The loco is AC - but will run on DC as it is, since the "Allstrom" motor can run on DC too, you just can't reverse the loco Blink

The diode conversion is described here; after doing that you can reverse the loco by reversing your DC polarity:
