I can't find a definitive answer in the 1990 catalog nor a copy somewhere of the user manual. Does anyone have the manual, and if so can you advise if it can be used on an analog layout? I realize the functions may be limited, but the livery would go nicely with my 4291/2/3 consist. And then I have to decide if I want one badly enough...$!

I believe that if you used the analogue reverse it will blow the heads off the dancers.

LOL LOL

although, you have a point as this car is considered "digital" so there is a decoder to think about in re the analogue reverse function...may not be a problem (I have been wrong before Unsure ), just a thought...Cool

Hi CCranium
I can't find the manual either
The protocol is Motorola 1 (NOT MM2) and uses the Motorola chip MC45027
Its fatory address is 20
The fonctions are:
- F0: not used
- F1: illumination
- F2: Dancers in action

Combination F3 & F4
- F3 OFF & F4 OFF Music off
- F3 OFF & F4 ON Play next music
- F3 ON & F4 OFF Play music
- F3 ON & F4 ON Play all music pieces in sequence

I may be wrong but the car won't play anything nor be illuminated in analogue mode.
Testing this is OK but avoid the overvoltage direction change on such a valuable collector piece
I suggest if the car remain dark, no music no dancing that you remove the slider and use the car as is.
The best info I could gather is here
http://www.web-hgh.de/p03_maedig_fkt_so-4998.htm

Here it is in operation with some glimpses of the manual

Cheers
Jean

It will not do anything in analogue mode.

However to save the cost that car has also been issued without the dancers. I don't know the catalogue number off hand, but it should be in a catalogue before the 4998 was issued. They do periodically appear on ebay, and I presume whatever other second hand bazaars that are in your part of the world.

Thank you, Jean and Alan! The analog version is the 4175 (in the 1988 catalog). I'll look for one of those also.
