Hi everybody

I include here a small tutorial on how to benefit from the latest s/w version 2.5.1(0) of the CS3 and its capability to be remote-controlled by any smartphone (no app needed)
This comes in replacement of the previous VPN Viewer approach.
This does not seem to work with iPads or tablets

How it works?
- the CS3 must be connected to a "Box" or a WiFi router BEFORE power-on
- simply copy the IP address displayed in the CS3 (System/CS3/IP) onto your smartphone browser into the address field

You get this first screen

Selecting the + key allows you to import all the locos like this

Selecting the loco you wish you create your favorite locos list (Maximum 20 locos

You may - of course come back and remove locos from the favorite list and add new one using the symbol bottom left of the horizontal favorite list

Selecting a loco, you get access to max 32 fonction (vertical sliding)

You get access to the track layout

and to events

There are other possibilities I have not explored yet

Voilà, this is just great BUT it does not work on tablets (I tried with my old iPad and it didn't work)
So I got a WLAN MS2 for free with much bigger capability
Cheers

Jean

Merci Jean! I think had I wanted to use my phone, I'd have opted for a Roco Z21 profi. system.

It seems odd that you can not access the CS3+ with a iPad but previously you could with an iPad but not with an iPhone. Not sure I see a huge difference to what was previously available and if access with an iPad is gone I think it is a step back.

It is a strategic decision by Märklin to develop 2 Web interfaces that do not call for any app (unlike previously:
- one PC web interface where you have 90% of all controls through the PC
- one small screen web interface (for smart phones)
- no tablet interface at this time

I am not a specialist but my understanding is to develop web applications like now with V2.5.1(0) takes ressources out of the CS3 (which are not infinite)
Unlike the previous version with external programs like VNC Viewer the new Web interface is independent of what is on the CS3 (Previously it was a remote control of the CS3 screen)
Now you could have 2 operators (one on the CS3 and one on the smart phone) while previously you could not

Cheers
Jean

The procedure for accessing the CS3+ web interface which I have done many times on our club layout with both iPad, iPhone, and android phones consisted of accessing the wifi network created by the router which was connected to the CS3+ by signing in and then entering the web browser address of the CS3+ found on the ip section of the CS3+ System section. Did you go through that with both the phone and the pad? Marklin USA suggests that access to both portable devices should work.

Well, I assume you could with an Android tablet, seeing you can use an Android phone.

"Now you could have 2 operators (one on the CS3 and one on the smart phone) while previously you could not". What are you calling "operators"? Are you referring to speed controllers for the loco engines? If so you can control 10 locos with a CS3. Not that I would ever dare do that on my small layout.

Yes, on my Android tablet, it works fine. I can use both the "mobile app" and the "PC app".
