hi all, my name is Fabrizio, i recently joined the club of Marklin enthusiasts, so i hope to be in the right place here.

I really like bridges and in general the 3rd dimension in a layout, so i am surely going to build them. I just saw that Faller seems to offer the "same" type of pieces (for example Marklin 74618 - https://www.maerklin.de/...ts/details/article/74618 and Faller 120474 - https://www.faller.de/en...ide/226/track-bed?c=20), only Faller costs much less.

From what i see, there are of course some differences, i would like to ask 3 important questions though :

1) Are Faller bridges pieces compatible with Marklin Pillars (es. 7253 - https://www.maerklin.de/...ts/details/article/7253) ? and vice-versa ?

2) Can i mix Faller and Marklin bridge pieces, aside from the questionable esthetic matter ?

3) I am a 3d printer enthusiast also, and from a fast search i found some 3d models for the Bridges, but none of them seem to be a perfect replica of either Marklin or Faller pieces. In particular, i am looking at 3d models of Marklin basements (7250 and 7251) and thin pillar (7252), since they really cost very much money and i definitly feel robbed buying the original ones.... so any hint here ?

Same question goes for lights : Marklin 72800 - https://www.maerklin.de/...ts/details/article/72800 and Faller - https://www.faller.de/en...se-light-cold-white?c=34 : they are extremly similar, Faller costs half of less. Only, Marklin lights seem to be ok up to 16v DC, while Faller, from what i read, should not exceed 12V DC. Since i have a variable voltage DC transformer, i would like to get the best from the lights, so i would like to run 16V DC for the lights, since Marklin support it, but can i mix Marklin and Faller at 16V DC ?

thanks to anyone wishing to help a newbie,

Fabrizio

Hi Fabrizio
Maybe its too late to wish you the best in our community.
Disclaimer: I don't pretend I know everything on Faller, Märklin, Kibri and other bridges

Märklin is sometimes not compatible with its own vehicles, here are some examples (I don't say Märklin is bad but they could be clearer on restrictions):
- the curved R1 bridges like 74613 where the railings interfere with long vehicles' sides
- the gate crossing 74924 cannot be used without having a straight section on both sides when using a long vehicle
- Märklin nowadays pillar system is not compatible with Märklin's previous pillar system

To my knowledge, each manufacturer (Faller, Viessmann, etc) have their own pillar system and their are not interchangeable but it is part of model railroad fun to do these adaptations

For instance, Märklin pillars are very thick and, close to a curve, I had to do some surgery to let long cars go near the pillar.

Cheers
Jean
