Hello again folks!!
The big question at least for me is the technik within the replicamodel.I wont buy it with plastic/metal cardanshafts the new style. It must be driven with the metalgears like the real deal.
But that is yet the unrelieved secret.Confused

No, not € 599.

In the 4 page flyer of the loco, it is listed for € 399

Both bogies powered with blind shafts and coupler rods.so not mechanically like the original.

The original was just 1 prototype ('handmuster').
It is said on German mrr forums that the 1936 CCS 700 prototype had been intensively tested at the time (hence the 3 worn spoon pick-ups), but Marklin didn't succeed in making the loco run well through corners. So it was never taken into production.

So for me it is no problem that the 2024 model isn't like mechanically like the original.
But it sure look like the original. I like the replica loco a lot.

Hello folks and a happy new year !!

link to another video ccs700 on youtube:

Unfortunatly it reveals nothing from the technical side of it.Maybe part of the deal of borrowing it,not showing more than Märklin did when presenting their commercial intro.

The manual is online and can be downloaded. It is interesting to see the exploded view.
From what I understand it is the current standard cardan shafts to the 2 trucks (instead of the bogies as they don't exist in this case).

Yes,it is technical the same as for example : 39089 Not so happy with this, but anyway i did order one.Should they made it tecnical as the ccs800 it would be unpayable. The only sad thing here is the sound.
I guess this lokomotive will be wery silent, and half the fun is gone. With the old lokomotives like this, the sound is magic and half the fun.Märklin schould have built in soundmodule with the original sound from
the ccs700.But probably they wont even dare to run the prototype.

I also have one ordered, but I would have preferred a motor and a mechanical transmission like the CCS800/3015. I know it was more expensive to produce, but not many years ago Märklin released the 31100
so I think they can produce it easily. Probably they didn't do it because we pay the same and they get more profit.
I completely agree with you about the no sound. It will be a bit strange....

Hello !!
Thats correct, they produced the 3015 not many years ago, and they have the tools.Maybee the challenge would be that the ccs700 is smaller so the main costs will be making new metal driveline that is smaller ??
Regarding the prototype it was not identical with the ccs800.The four senterwheels was not moving but connected to the frame under the cabin.Gears on the senterwheels both sides
connect the frontwheels on both sides. This is not the best solution, reason for making the new ccs800 technic.

I’m a huge fan of vintage — and vintage-inspired — locomotives and rolling stock, especially where tinplate is involved. I’m going to order this item, even though the motor is not a “traditional” type: I figure it’s about as original as it can be, given it was never produced back in the day. I only hope there will be some goods wagons to accompany it later this year. If not, I think the ones from the 0050 set from 1985 (and the 00100 set from 2000) will do nicely.

Thanks to mbarreto in post 12 to post the manual.
I have a question for page 15, bottom right. There is an ! and an x over two tracks (1 straight and 1 curved). What is Marklin trying to say here?? Thanks.
Also, lately, I have recent releases of Marklin loks that do not run on metal M track. I hope this one does.

if you want it you better get your order in pronto as dealers have an allocation, they cannot order as many as they want. The loco is in manufacture now and due for delivery in February.

Agree with the sound, but as it is now the model does not appeal that much to me.
I would probably have purchased it if it had an old-style motor or the sound of the original motor.

Hello,

I agree with you that was better to have the original sound and motor from a perspective of being a replica, and not only kind of "almost replica".

Probably one of the new CCS700 design concerns was that it must run well on current track and digital system. The original motor is/was probably a
motor like the one used in the CCS800 (or the same type but a bit smaller, don't know). This motor is not "well behaved" , or at least not the best
to be controlled by the usual decoders. Märklin has the 60906 decoder for that type of motors, but the running characteristics are not as good as the
permanent magnet DC motors with other type of decoders, so Märklin probably decided that a permanent magnet motor was desirable.
There were 2 choices: 1- use a permanent magnet in the original motor, or 2- use another DC motor. They went to the 2nd alternative because it is
their standard option and probably cheaper to produce.

The CCS700 also uses a slider instead of the 2 contact point pieces to pick up current from the center rail due to the usage of pukos instead of solid center rail.

It seems there is also the option to install a second slider, but I don't understand well what is the message of page 15 in the CCS700 manual, so I don't know if it can be used without limitations...

This said, I also preferred it to have the characteristic sound/noise, but even with that limitation I ordered it and probably will use it with few wagons that have the front pages of old catalogues in the sides (45900, etc).
I completely understand your decision, though!

Miguel

Miguel

Hello all !

When you are into the vintage stuff, its all about the whole package.Design and sound, they are so heavy and solid compare to the newer products. And the most interesting for me is the old technical soloutions.
So in light of that, the 18045 is a disapointment. But afterall i think it would be a solid qualitymodel with the modern features. This is a common technic used feks. in ccs800 ,and wery reliable.
Märklin have used this driveline in many of their models now, so has ofcourse many others. Its a digital world (but the old is the oldest...)Loking forward to its arrival.

Whilst I won't be getting this, the combination of an old design made with modern methods and a realistic price is a pretty attractive package. Good luck to those of you getting one.

Hello again !!
Märklin schould produced 4000 pieces insted of 2000.I think they would have sold out.Now its more likely the most lokomotives find their customers in Europe and a low number shipt elsewhere. But what do i know ? Unsure
But i really think this model would be most collectible beeing a (1) replica of that special prototype.I guess chances are very small for a second edition, but who knows.

Hi all !!

Was in contact with my dealer and they confirm my order, but if they get one of the 18045 is certenly the big question.Reading from other forum dealers in Germany get half of what was is in order from Märklin
The customers who had order to or more, get it reduced to one,and many customers with late orders wont recieve at all. They told that 1900 pcs are made, but this is unconfirmed.

Where can I buy those pre-war couplers (Typ 1)? I ask this because I bought a wagon that has Type 1 coupler on one side and I think a Type 8 on the other side. It is helpful to have both types, but I would like to have the capability to its original state.

Now more in the topic, I was charged today for the 18045.

If they would fit the 18045 i dont know.

Best regards kaav800

Hello,

Thank you very much for the link to the shop. They have lots of couplers, although they seem to have the Klauenkupplung Typ 1, just the Klauenkupplung Typ 3,0.
I am still waiting for the arrival of the banana wagon (will happen next week) and if it is what I am expecting I will email that shop asking for the part.

Regards,
Miguel

Best regards,
Miguel

Hello,

I received mine on Monday. It looks very good and runs well in digital. Didn't try it in analogue yet.
The pantographs move easily up and down, which is good. Compared to today's pantographs they look a bit strange, though :-)
The lamps outside the body really give a retro look!

About the couplers, they are ok, but I would have preferred they were KK Typ 1 as the original hand sample of the 30ies. Of
course with the coupler used, we can add most of the wagons and with the KK Typ 1 we couldn't. To address that, Märklin could produce a KK Typ 1 that would fit in a NEM coupler pocket (to retrofit more modern wagons).

In the box there is a spare slider that can be attached in the other extremity of the chassis, but I don't understand, from the figures in the manual, if it is a working slider or not.

About the sliders, they are the usual sliders for tracks with pukos. I don't know if this type of sliders run well on solid center rail track. I guess they do but will produce more drag and are a bit noisy. If it is like this, then it would be interesting to have sliders more specific to solid center rail track as an add-on, as this is a locomotive that maybe interesting to run in solid center rail track.

The certificate that comes in the box is not numbered, which means the series maybe not so limited.

One last question is if Märklin will produce more locomotives with this CCS700 mold. As they need to make the mold profitable, I guess yes:
maybe a black one, an olive green one, or one like this but with sound and cab lights... and also a KK Typ 1 :-) I have no idea if this makes some sense. Maybe for some it does, for others it doesn't at all.

I would like to see photos of the inside and bottom of the real hand sample of the 30ies to see the motor, the gears and the sliders.

Miguel
Best regards,
Miguel

I could see them doing a black one as a Toy Fair loco. Maybe they would do some companion wagons to go with that.

Uh, oh, now one needs to save up some more to collect the complete set ... Scared Scared Scared

Hello again folks !

You are a lucky man Miguel !

I am still uncerten if i got oneUnsure, but i will check otherplases if my dealer fails.
When reading other forums the extra slider is for the showcase only. They had experienced that it was to heavy for the loko with more than one slider to pull when it had many metalwagons on the 3600 series tracks.
The centerrail lies a little higher that on the later 5200 series. The pressure on the slider could be reduced by bending it up a little.
If i got one,i will certenly check that Märklin also has connected both with current.
Best regards kaav800

I would like to see Märklin producing an add-on package with 2 KK Typ 1 couplers and 2 solid center rail sliders.
