Last Monday (December 11) in the morning, a freight train lost its brakes during its descent towards Rijeka, so it ran through Škrljevo station, where it had to stop!
UserPostedImageUserPostedImageUserPostedImageUserPostedImage
A small work vehicle was going to meet the speeding train, the station master managed to inform their drivers at the last minute to escape from the vehicle!
UserPostedImageUserPostedImage
In fact, it's lucky that that little guy got in the way because he caused the other locomotive in the train to jump out and thus all 19 wagons, which stopped the train!
UserPostedImage
Another good thing is that nothing rolled down the slope into the abyss

The wagons were in a notch and fell apart as if they were made of paper

In the meantime, freight traffic takes place through Slovenia, and passengers are transported by buses to the nearest larger stations above this place.
One working train with a crane came from Slovenia via the lower route and the other from Croatia via the upper route.
All in all, except for the minor injuries of the driver in the first locomotive, there were no injuries!

Another one a few years ago in Australia:

https://www.abc.net.au/n...eport-concerns/100918974

'The derailment destroyed two remote locomotives, 245 ore cars and 2km of rail track.'

I have seen these trains in Western Australia, we were in that area in 2018, they basically go forever. About 30,000 tonnes of iron ore per train & exporting about 1,000,000 tonnes per day. The numbers are frightening!

(typical iron ore train)

Glad it wasn't a passenger train. That Australian iron ore train is so long. Mainly exported I think. They don't make cars down under anymore.

The owner of the cargo (maize) gave it up, so the inhabitants of the surrounding villages started collecting it

The work train from Slovenia first dragged the first locomotive to the Meja lower station
UserPostedImage
Then a specialized contact network vehicle from Rijeka removed it
UserPostedImageUserPostedImage
Then the Slovenian work train with a crane came again

Care had to be taken here

The second locomotive jumped out while still in the cut and was damaged by the rocks
UserPostedImage
She was lucky because she remained attached to the first one
UserPostedImage
The buffers were the first to keep her from falling into the abyss
UserPostedImage
The front part of the first locomotive was damaged when it hit the work vehicle

These pictures are from the Meja lower station

They are lucky those locos will be repairable. I think most of the wagons are going to be written off though.

Only the last wagon in the composition remained intact, the other 18 had to be cut up and hauled away in pieces.

BTW - the link to the Australian derailment is actually an Australian Transport Safety Bureau report into a 2018 derailment - it takes them a long time to issue their reports.

Also in other parts of the country (Western Australia for example) they remote-control the trains from a city thousands of kilometres away. I guess that helps to cut down on injuries - at least to the train staff - when things go wrong

These days, the weather is nice and above average warm without precipitation, so the works are progressing well
UserPostedImageUserPostedImageUserPostedImage
On both sides of the cut, the remains of broken wagons were deposited
UserPostedImageUserPostedImageUserPostedImage
The contact network is being restored

This is on the other side, towards Meja station

Yesterday, in the middle of the day, the railway was put into traffic!

Work was done day and night on the reconstruction of the railway, thanks to the beautiful and relatively warm weather without precipitation
