Dear All

I have a Marklin BR 101 electric loco p/n 39371 that has poor running characteristics at low speeds over random turnouts and double slips. Some times it just stops with no electrical power. eg no sound, no lights.....etc. There is no issue with these turnouts or double slips as other Marklin locomotives can cross them at low speed... I have tried cleaning the sliders and wheels to no avail.... Any ideas?

Many thanks

Andy

Hi Andy
A very frequent culprit is the ground return: the wheel axles used for ground return are often, on this loco type only by the slider bogie. So cleaning and lighly lubricating the axles improves things. Another thing to check: are the wheels on the motor bogie connected to ground? Adding a thin wire between the motor bogie and the frame can help a lot.
Another culprit can be the link between the slider and its spring blade. The recess can be oxidized or dirty and cause current pick-up issues.
Cheers
Jean
