Hi all,

I'm not sure how to begin but i'll guess i'll start with a bit of background information. Marklin trains have been a big part of my dad's life. Making tracks, collecting trains and visiting musea. At one point in his life he had to sell all his stuff and last year he had to move to a caretaking facility after he got alzheimer's disease. He is doing well there but i would love to add something of his youth to bring him joy every day. A marklin train track coffee table. The ones i remember when we visited a marklin place in germany.

The problem is though i really dont know how.

I have pretty good woodworking skills but i dont know anything how i would build a track. I googled a bit but its hard to figure out. I found this template, Z Scale Noch 85880, but its without the decorations, tracks, switches. Im not sure what to order to make a complete track. I also thought about remodeling one of their suitcase examples but im not sure if that is a good idea.

I was wondering if you could help me out. What would be the best way to do this as a complete marklin noob. I want to make it so its failproof for my father. I think at this point he will be able to use the standard controls but it would be nice that in the future it would be as simple as pressing a button.

Thank you if you are reading this far. I would really apreciate any help!

Kind regards

p.s. English is not my native language. If anything is unclear feel free to ask!

That is a very gracious effort. Here is the track plan with the list of track needed for the Noch 85880:

I believe that as long as his motor skills are good he can handle the small scale, and of course, space is at a premium.

Good luck and well done!

For inspiration, circular Z scale coffee table layouts with (partially) documented construction processes:

Hello, and welcome. I hope all is well.

I have always liked the thought of a coffee table Z scale track layout, but unfortunately I lack the woodworking skills I believe would be needed. I am certain your results will be enjoyed and appreciated.

I know it would be important to keep it simple and reliable. In the event you will be using Marklin track, I thought it helpful to have a reference for their track system.

I had a link for the track guide but in testing it, it did not work.

Search the forum using Track Guide and you will find it. Please allow time for it to download to your equipment. I hope you will find this useful, it even covers their unique accessories and features.

Best wishes for your project. Take good care.

Dwight

Hello. Hope all is well. Here is a copy of my 5 march forum input.

This is certainly possible. Here is a track planning guide which includes Märklin accessories which may perform this function. It should help you with this question and perhaps help with future work on your layout.

https://www.maerklin.de/...Buch_Spur_Z_komplett.pdf

This is a large document which takes a long time to download. If the link does not work, copy then paste it into your browser or use it from my earlier post.

Take good care. I will keep trying to find a more reliable link to this.

another reason for going to the Hohenstaufen Hotel in Goeppingen, the tables in the bar area each have a little Z gauge layout in them.
