I'm using Marklin C track and I am wondering about the difference in height between
the top of the rails and platforms. Can anyone explain please?

In Germany, the height of the platform can be between 380 mm and 960 mm.
Standard heights are 380 mm, 550 mm, 760 mm, and 960 mm.

760 mm is standard for new platforms, 960 for S-Bahn stations.
If you model older times, you may go for 380 mm or 550 mm.
