Joined: 22/01/2009(UTC) Posts: 14,728 Location: On 1965 Märklin Boulevard just around from Roco Square		The new track system will be 2 rail when the renew the Austrian section, the middle rail has been filed down over the years and needs replacing, I‘ve had mine over 40 years and still going,

This time they go two-rail instead of three-rail in this area. I think the centre rail lasts about 5 years in Wonderland. Many areas have been built without centre-rails and now they begin to change old areas from three-rail to two-rail. Yes, the centre-rail is the weak part of the three-rail system. It is made of tin plate and prone to rust and wear.

It's another matter in such a large system where it is driven from morning to evening every day of the year. It would not be worthwhile for Marklin to install higher quality (more durable) materials separately due to several large systems

My K-track has been on the layout for 43 years and some have been worn down, not by usage but rather getting rusty on the top and by filing it down I'e lost most probably a mm or two, since we've insulated the garage this is no longer necessary, so we hope it will last long enough before I'll take them to heaven.
