Afternoon all,

I just noticed an e-bay oddity that reflects a feeling I have
sensed in this forum.

There are currently 2 Calif. Zephyrs on sale at same price =US$ 799.
On the seller with 100% feedback there are nine bids the other seller
97%ish, there are none, zip, zero.

I won't buy from e-Bay as I lack the skills to fix anything, unlike
the vast majority of my fellow columnists, so I get from dealers
who can and do live up to their responsibilities. But I like to
check on what different items are going for so I visit regularly.

Just an observation,

Cheers all !!

jeremy.

Good observation Jeremy. But it's not just the feedback rating that concerns me with that particular seller, but the comments from the buyers - they report unreceived merchandise and unanswered emails. In return, the seller leaves negative feedback in retaliation. This makes me want to stay away from his merchandise.

I have been tempted by this seller also, ut he only accepts payments that leave the buyer no recourse. He has control and you are at his mercy. Not a good position to be in at all.

97.2% with 800+ feedbacks - sorry, not good enough for me. Stay clear.

I've bought a few things from this seller. He is a German dealer of some sort. I believe the problem resides in the fact that as a German dealer paypal is not a normal way to accept payment and perhaps more importantly, he doesn't speak english! The money orders get sent to a relative in Ohio. I was satisfied with my purchases- and got them in a timely manner. However don't expect any correspondance whatsoever. But for the extra 20-50 bucks Ill buy from a sure thing kind of dealer

The "no-email" thing is a big trend on ebay. In the early days, people would take the time to tell you they received payment, when they are shipping, etc. Now you hear nothing. It's not a community any longer, which is my main gripe.

I don't have any problems with the seller in question. the stuff comes packaged very well, usually in a timely manner (some german sellers, or maybe the german post office) really gouge/overcharge on shipping charges and then give sloooow surface mail for top $.
If you're in the USA he can't be beat because you can also buy stuff from his regular price list (at very good prices for USA) through his contact in Ohio.
I've bought stuff from him going back even before e-bay.

one caviat, if you buy an expensive item, get the insurance. I had one very expensive item ripped off in transit, and he replaced it no charge and had the item shipped fed-ex the next time.

I bought the Zephyr in question from K1200s (Gunter Fortkord) on the 13 of July - I sent payment via personal cheque in US Dollars drawn on a Canadian bank to his US address on the 14th of July - Item was sent on the 28th of July (from Germany) and I received it today (July 31st) - absolutely beautiful trainset .

I think this seller can be trusted - and he was around well before eBay - in fact I have some issues of Model Railroader that have his ads from the mid - 1980's. It dawns on me I have used this guy before - as well!
