Hah... I´ve seen similar things in a german tv-series that is on youtube. Probably digitized VHS tapes from the 80´ies.
If I find it, I will put the link here.

Meanwhile, a "similar" layout that I tried to do in Lego some years ago;

I like it.

That is not something I would want on my own layout, but that is not the point IMO. In any case it is amazingly useful to be able to view and record video with the loco virtually standing still, but while also running.

I would like to have a video or each of my locos showing the action of the rods on my early electrics plus the valve mechanisms on my steamers.

First up would be my lovely SNCF 241, which has very realistic rods and valve action. I could turn on the undercarriage lights and watch it for hours. ThumpUp

Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Okay, so I found it; It was used a lot in the parts "Komm Spiel mit Mir" of Eisenbahn Romantic, around episodes 80-100;

First I thought it was from the "Kleine Welt auf Rädern" series, but it wasnt...

I've watched their videos for years and I have to admit that I had never wondered how they recorded those videos.

It is very helpful in evaluating a new model and now I understand the long running scenes on a continuous curve.

you can achieve the same effect buy putting the loco on a Roller Test Stand 78150 this reduces the space needed and complexities of any kind. You can still see the wheels and rods move at various speeds 👍🏻😊
