Hi everyone,

I'm sniffing at the new Markling Edelweiss salon car set in the 2023 catalogue. The locomotive, however, remains a question market for me. Does anyone know if the EST steam loco pulled the train for the Swiss leg of the trip in real life? Or was it the (more likely) scenario where it was handed over to the SBB?

And if SBB, since this (mostly) predates the AE 4/7, would it have been steam-hauled? Or a BE 4/6 perhaps, which came 5-10 years earlier?

Thanks in advance! I'm digging for an excuse to buy the locomotive :)

An Ae 4/7 is correct for the section between Basel and Lucerne. See some photos beginning here (more when you scroll down):

The train only began running in 1928, so that would also be consistent with the use of an Ae 4/7.

What a perfect reply (even if it means no steam locomotive for me), thank you!

On a related note, it seems the Ae 4/7 was assigned to all of the "good" luxury train duties such as this an the Rheingold, as opposed to the Ae 3/6 as an example, although presumably it was the best loco at their fingertips and therefore a logical assignment.

My poor HAG Ae 4/7 (the later tooling) has quite a few assignments! I may need to pick up a Piko one to give it some rest :)
