The Achensee Railway (German: Achenseebahn) is a 6.78 kilometers (4.21 mi) long gauge railway between Jenbach and Seespitz on Lake Achen in Tyrol (Austria). It rises about 440 meters (1,444 ft) in height within its length, with the steeper sections using the Riggenbach girder system. It is Europe's oldest cogwheel railway still running on steam power.
The route of 6.78 km has a track width of 1000 mm. It runs between Jenbach and Achensee Schiffstation. The Riggenbach racking system is installed between Jenbach and Eben, from which line it gently descends to the Achensee Schiffstation. Upward trains run to Eben, where the engine turns and pulls the carriages to the Achensee terminal. The motor leads during the entire drive downwards. The official opening of the line was on June 8, 1889.
Maximum slope: 16%.
