All, I will be in Helsinki and Tallinn in mid June on holiday. Any great model trains stores or train related tourist activities nearby? I model in HO scale, Marklin analog and digital and some two rail HO, with DC and DCC.
Thanks, Thom

According to the Märklin store locator(https://www.marklin.com/service/store-locator) there are four shops in Finland (all of them in the Helsinki area), but none in Estonia.

Finnish MU forum members Åke aka "Br502362" and Eino aka "einotuominen" should be able to help you, too.

Hi,

Yeah Mallikauppa and Hobbypoint are pretty much the ones in Helsinki. Online shopping has made a clear impact on brick-and-mortar retail.

Sometimes their selection can still surprise you though!

Welcome to Finland, Helsinki is a great place in the summertime if it’s not raining 😀

BR,
-Eino

Kiitos Eino. I live just outside Seattle, the rain capitol of the Pacific Northwest. I will bring a light raincoat, just in case...
Thanks, Thom

You also asked about touristy stuff. The main railway station is an architectural gem; plan to wander around it a bit.

The Finnish Railway Museum is quite OK. Accessible via a 40-minute local train ("R" train) plus ten-minute walk.

Kiitos fbaube, I will try to get out to Finnish Rail Museum! The main railway station in Helsinki is truly one of the great stations and I will for sure visit it!
Thanks, Thom

If I recall, there’s a model railroad at the Helsinki Central Station… or at least was.

There used to be. As of a few years ago it was still there at the museum but no longer operating. Nowadays it is not in promotional material and was not part of a model railroading day.

So, no dice.
