Hi all,

I have created a printable F7 cab interior for the classic Marklin F7 like 3060. It includes updated LED lighting and transparant windows.

You can find the project files, including design sources and templates for the windshield, here:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5944330

It started as a project to convert the Santa Fe F7 from my childhood. Recently I also purchased the green Burlington F7 just to convert.

My Santa Fe ABA unit has been converted to 3 (!) DCM motors, and 10 functions, with a single Lokpilot 5, which appears to work just fine.

The only thing that would still be nice is to have custom road numbers for the older F7 models instead of them all having the number '337'. Is there anyone that can make or sell these? That would convince me to also convert older rio grande, sourthern pacific or new haven locos, but mainly it would allow me to change either the 3060 or 4060 to another number

BR,
Bert

Those "337" transparent plastic inserts are VERY difficult to find! Later liveries of the F7 have other numbers appropriate to their prototype. Does anyone know the spare parts number of ANY of these plastic inserts - I need some and I would like to acquire as many pairs of different numbers as possible.

Thanks, I have already ordered windscreens/headlights using part number E238464. However I also need the lighted numbers which are to the left and right of the headlights. 3060/61/62 all have "337", but later F7 models have many different road numbers. I would like to order as many variations as possible, and it is for these that I seek the Märklin part number.

I just browsed through my collection of H0 scale Microscale decals for F7 cab units, and they contain decals for number boards, too. So, you could recycle existing plexiglas inserts from F7 shells by removing an existing unwanted road number - rubbing it off with a rag dipped in acetone might do the job - and replace it with a desired one.

For orientation and inspiration, there are road number tables on the last pages of the article "Santa Fe F Units" presented in the Third Quarter 1991 Santa Fe Modeler by Lee Berglund & Jay Miller - link:

Many thanks, it is, however, not quite so easy to remove the "337" from the plexiglass inserts because they are in fact a raised profile rather than an imprint.
Märklin have produced many different F7s over the years, and the majority are NOT Santa Fe but other US railroads, and most of them have different road numbers.
Each of those differently numbered plexiglass inserts will have Märklin part number. If I could get hold of some part numbers I could order some!
I didn't mention this in my previous post, but I do have some F7 bodyshells which have somehow LOST their plexiglass numbers, so if anyone has, by some strange chance, got any spare, I would be happy to purchase them.

I own a number of F7A models, and ordered various spare parts over the years, but I never stumbled over a separate number board. When I looked at a 3349/3649 “demonstrator” number board earlier today (road number 701), it seemed to have an even surface. Time permitting, I‘ll check again.

Here are the promised photos of the F7 Demonstrator road number boards, i.e. 4x plexiglass inserts: The parts each have flat surfaces, inside and outside. Thus no raised profile regarding the road number. And no, I am not selling them due to own needs.Wink

I also examined my road number 337 Santa Fe F7 shell and found the same thing: The plexiglas inserts each have flat surfaces, inside and outside. Again, no raised profile regarding the road number.

I am not so sure about that.

P.S.: The Märklin spare part E238464 bag contains several "generic" items (but unfortunately not the one you are after), and I imagine that the number board plexiglas insert to be a "generic" item "individually" lettered for each F7 production run.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to look. I'll check mine again to see if the "337" is raised. I suppose it is just possible that OLDER versions are raised, whilst MORE RECENT versions are imprinted. I'll have another look........
