To answer your first response to this rather simple question - yes I do have the books (both German and English) on control with the CS3. But I cannot find them.

About my real problem ….. I have edited the set-up on a couple of my locos but I can’t remember how I did it. Actually I find the CS3 rather difficult to use compared with my CS1 for a number of reasons. But we don’t need to go into that.
I am not interested in changing CVs- I left that behind 15 years ago.

I simply want to change volume, acceleration, and deceleration.
The loco is an MFX+ and registered fine on the CS3.
I don’t know how to bring up the edit page for this loco.

Thank you in advance.
Kimball

Cool
Ok I found it.
Pull up the red button above the loco list icons and a row of choices appears.
Touch the Edit (spanner) and choose Edit Locos.
Then you touch the icon of loco to be edited.
And up pops the Info, set Up and Configuration options.
In Set Up I find the parameters I wish to change.
All good.
I hope this helps someone else too.

Glad you found it. Not sure how easy it was to edit loco parameters with a CS1 but I can't imagine anything easier than doing it with a CS3. I do it with every loco.

I like when people provide the answer or resolution to their original question. Makes forum search so much more valuable to other users.

Hello rhfil,

I am well used to using computers (since 1988) but I find touch-screens difficult.
Particularly the CS3 touch screen.
There are too many vagaries in sensitivity of touch, press or swipe to suit me.
The CS1 was much more straight-forward in the menu choices, with button alternatives for many functions.
It has now gone to the digital grave-yard.

Kimball

On another matter, is there an ability on the start screen of the CS3 to show the locomotives page ONLY?
I will never be using the CS3 to show my layout, because the turnouts and signals are not digitally controlled.

Hi Kimball,
Have you thought about hooking up a mouse? I wouldn't want to use mine without it.

I find using a mouse a lot better, especially with the screen vagaries mentioned above. In addition, I rarely use the speed control knobs now.

A mouse is a necessity for me and even it can be touchy. Dragging open the loco controller often puts it into the setup and edit page. I also use a dual tip stylus. One end is soft and acts like a finger tip. No power up needed. For closer work the pen tip is best.
I don't see how you can do any route design without a mouse.

Thank you Roger.
Well .......I did not know I could.
Is there a USB port or a mini-DIN port?

Also I like the idea of the pen described by 5999.

I agree that a mouse is the way to go. Might be good to obtain the Marklin book on running with CS3 which covers most things. Having had. CS1 the CS3 is miles better in every way.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

There are two USB ports in the back. Very easy to identify. I use one for a wireless mouse and the other for a thumb drive. I learned early that trying to do small moves with the touch screen was impossible unless the screen was enlarged.

Also, if you are not regularly saving your CS3 to a thumb drive you risk losing all the work you did making it representative of your layout.

I also prefer to use a mouse to operate my CS3.

There is a quick way of going into Locomotive edit mode, if you want to edit one of the locomotives you have assigned to the left or right locomotive controllers.
You can just make "a long click" (on the picture of the locomotive for the actual locomotive controller) with the left mouse button, and then you will go directly into edit mode for that locomotive.

Best regards Per

PS: I have heard about this possibility in one of the YouTube videos from "Model Train Fun"

I agree that CS3 screen is too small for touch use. Others already suggested a mouse, but I also use a vnc connection on my laptop (essentially a screen duplicator). Gives a larger screen area and a more convenient location to control screen with mouse. The CS3 stores under the layout, not needing access for edits and operation.

Yes if you choice "simplified used interface".
Go to the system settings in upper corner of the window and choice CS3 icon symbol.
Click on the icon "work tool" symbol and choice "simplified".
CS3 starts again.
If you want "standard" back again just repeat system setting.

By the way...i use wireless mouse and it works perfect.
If you have still windows protect sheet remove it if you want better contact on the screen by tap with your finger.

There are three USB ports but one is for power only. I have a an IR keyboard and mouse attached. The power one has a different color "tongue" inside, IIRC.

I also don't shut my CS3 down with the stop bar. I do it in the system menu. Once it's off, I shut off the surge protector/power strip main switch. We have too many spikes, surges, and occasiona outages. If you don't do that, or unplug it frm the wall outlet, it will restart when house power is restored.

Thanks everybody for your really useful contributions to the topic.
I don't often feel stupid, but as our esteemed Webmaster says only a fool does not ask questions.......

Anyway Per your method sounds like how I did manage a couple of loco edits.
But the last time I tried it did not work.
I have been using the CS3 for almost a year.

So now I have a soft-touch pen and will try a mouse later.
I also have the CS3 control books (temporarily misplaced somewhere) which is why I asked the forum.

Hello Goofy,
Brilliant!!!!!
Thankyou.
I plugged in my USB mouse so that worked perfectly.
Your instructions were spot-on!
I feel as though I can now take control of the CS3 instead of it controlling how I work.
