Hello Forum,

I recently acquired a brand new Marklin BR50 model 37897. Beautiful model, great sound, runs very well, BUT. The leading axle (front wheel set) seems to pop off the rails very easily and shorts out the track of course. I notice that there is almost no weight (pressure) on the axle other than gravity so the wheels bounce up and out easily, and as well, the wheel flanges hit the front edge of the frame when travelling through the small radius track.

I did some minor surgery to trim back the front edges of the frame, which solved the flange/frame contact issue. But it still seems to derail easy, especially through turnouts. There is a small bronze leaf spring as part of the front wheel carriage but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this or similar. Did I get a model with a small defect?

Thanks.

Axel

I have a br 51, and don't have this problem. However, my new br 38 as of 18 months ago did. I removed the pilot truck, and spring, and adjusted the bend of the copper tabs a bit. Much. much better. The spring keeps force of the axles to the rails.
Hope this helps!
Be sure you put it back on correctly. It can fit both ways. usually. The slot that the screw goes through shold slide easily with the tabs above the axles.

Yes I had the same. Bending this part a bit fixed the problem (circled in red):
