Noticed fellow members discussing the mFX+ decoder in the other thread and thought it best to start a new topic on the question. I did not know that cab view was only available on the pre-installed decoders.

So curious if you use cab view often, and what kind of parameters do you like most? How do you set up routines and schedules if you do use it? And what do you like to use most... or not at all.

In single point perspective, where do track lines meet?

It is a nice looking feature but unfortunately, in my opinion, difficult to use, specially for steam machines.
Best regards,

It's a nice try, but very toyish.
Loco behaviour is very unrealistic, especially for steam locos.
When running trains, I want to keep my eyes on the train, not on the screen.

I'm not sure if this is still true. But it surely was true in the early months after introduction of cab view.
Only mfx+ decoders simulate consumption of resources (coal, sand, water) in the decoder. Loco can go into crawling mode if any resource is depleted.

Technically cab view can be done with any decoder (and Z21 does it without mfx+, of course).

Hi
Interesting poll thanks
I tried it on multiple locos but I don't use it because:
- I don't drive trains but rather conduct Rocrail so that many trains are running together
- the idea could be great when conbined with a camera (after all you need to observe signals. Don't you?
- the aspect is a bit childish (simplified landscape etc).

Isn't this aimed at kids. I would have loved it as a teenager I hope I don't offend anyone
Cheers

Jean

I like it, and use it occasionally. If hobby boredom sets in, like during cold winter days, and you've run out of things to do on the layout, or ran everything at least once. The true to life braking is nice. Like if you don't brake the locomotive, it just wil coast a long time. Steam operation is more involved.
As for the cons, the animated cab graphics, and scenery aren't optimal. It can be difficult to stop at coaling, fueling, or water, depots in time. That can cause stoppng. It's easier to replenish consumption from cab gagues.
The Roco cab driver graphics are better.
