I want to convert the 3 pole DCM motor in my 3106 to a 5 pole motor. I know I need the 60941 motor kit but I don’t know what decoder I need to use that will let me still run it in analog and hopefully 1 day in digital. The 60983 decoder was recommended by the website I found the motor kit on but the description just says digital, there was no mention of analog use.
Thanks
Jeff

The 60983 decoder recognizes automatically analog power (AC or DC), and will work just fine.

You could also use the 60760 kit if you don't need the additional functions of the 60983. It includes the same parts as the 60941 kit and a simple fx decoder.

The 60760 kit is the best deal money wise.
Has everything to do the DCM motor conversion and has a simple decoder that automatically detects the analog track.
Has only the F0 function (lights) and comes from the factory programmed with address 78 (re-programmable of course)

I have used this kit in several loks and it works great!

Once you replace the decoder you MUST use a Marklin 6646 U.S. transformer (or equivalent to your country). It is a white one with a red control knob.

If you use a blue transformer you will blow up the decoder when you try to reverse the locomotive.
