Hi gang Cool

Happy New Year to all

I have a problem with a MFX loco.

I want to register it on the cs3. This is the 5th one. I follow the procedure and the cs3 fails to locate the mfx decoder.

Is there anything I can do or do I send it straight to my dealer Mike without trying what to do?

Have a nice day

First, are you sure it is an mfx loco?

Second, have you tried the 'reregister mfx' function (I forget exactly how it is worded).

This is 37168 marklin

What is the reregister mfx function ? I have never heard of this.

All I know is that to register an mfx loco, you put it on either the main or programming track.

With the cs3, you activate the stop bar, you can put the mfx loco on the main track and you press the stop bar again...after a few seconds the decoder is located and registered

I have never heard of the stop bar activation. I just put in on the layout. First I would make sure there are no other locos on the layout or use the programming track. If nothing happened I would try the find lost loco function. That is an mfx+ loco. Check to make sure there is contact with the decoder. Try moving it on the layout. I never put anything on the layout without the stop bar activated and power to the layout off.
Note I would only isolate the loco if I it had not registered by just putting it on the layout with other locos.

I don't touch the decoder. I know my limits

The difference is that I am usually adding a loco first thing so the CS3 is already in stop mode. I put the loco on the layout and then activate the layout. If noting happens then slide the loco forward a bit and wait again.

Did you bought loco as second hand or it´s new and never been used before?
Try to open body of the loco and check if the decoder are inserted good.
Could be bad contact there.

Hi
@Thewolf: What is really important during registration:
- install the loco while there is NO POWER (preferably on the programing track, if you have a large layout). Installing the loco while digital power in on, may start the registration while you are not finished (The registration may be interrupted / aborted by shorts or power cuts).
- power ON. Registration will start after 30 s sometimes more. Don't touch ANYTHING for at least one minute, preferably 2 minutes.
- sometimes, the previous registration is not finished or unnoticed, (the new loco may be hidden behind many others). So check carefully that it is not already present in the list of locos
- if the problem persists activate "Chercher Article MFX" Search for [lost} MFX articles. The CS3 will search for all MFX lost locos See red framed key here
Note the procedure takes one minute or more and will power OFF and ON multiple times. Let it finish.

Another method is to have your "lost" loco registered to a different Digital system (CS3, CS2, MS2 WITH its track box and power supply, MS1 , its special feed track and its power supply. There must be NO CONNECTION between this second system and the first one.
When registration is finished, then bring back the loco in question your first system and register it anew.
Cheers
Jean

I have often written that I do not touch the decoder and that if I open the box, it is only to clean .

And in all my life as a marklinist, I have never bought used loco marklin material, ...wagons yes for example.

Hi Jean, thank you.

To date, I have not yet installed and connected to the cs3 my Roller Test Stand.

I will do it soon

OK, so according to Marklin 37168 page this is an mfx+ loco.

I'd have to go and look at the documentation to sort out what menu it is on.
