Hi all,

I am frustrated by the Marklin Mdecoder Tool not working today on my setup.

So, I have CS2 and a MSD3 decoder in a Diesel locomotive on my programming track.
I have downloaded the latest Mdecoder Tool software v3.5.0
I have downloaded the latest Sound Library.
I have downloaded a Marklin Sound project for the Diesel.
I have inserted a FAT formatted USB into the CS2.

I can activate the Diesel loco from the Mdecoder Tool test so I know that is all connected.

But I am getting this error message :
"Programming failed. No suitable files for locomotive found on the CS."

Does anybody have any ideas what is going on here ?
Have you had a similar problem ?

Regards
John

I believe I have seen it but unfortunately, I can't remember what solved it.
but here are some ideas you can try, if you have not done it:
what firmware is on the mSD3 decoder? try to update it. I suspect old firmware is the cause.

otherwise check:
Is the CS2 running the latest software?
If you have not done it, have only the programming track connected, disconnect the normal track or remove any locomotives etc.
try the previous version of the mDecoderTool

Hi John
I have done this quite a few times both with a CS2 and a CS3.
Sorry for saying things you probably know already.
- a medium-size USB (like 8 GB as much larger USB sizes may pose problem) inserted in the PC and fully formatted
- the loco must be identified by your CS2 (its picture shows on the programming screen)
- if for whatever reason, the programming does wrong, it will erase files on the USB so you have to redo this part
- for test purpose, you may load an unmodified Märklin sound and program it in your loco to see if it works

The notice is not very detailed. Here is mine in French (sorry)
Anleitung.pdf (3,389kb) downloaded 23 time(s).

Ain't much but this is all I can see.
Cheers
Jean

Hi Guys

Programming Successful !

Thank you so much to the forum members who helped me to think about this.

The problem was that my USB disk was too small.
I was using a 2GB USB disk, which I thought was sufficient.

It was a line in the reply from JohnJeanB which made me think that I should be using a larger USB disk.
So I formatted a 8GB USB disk and tried the same thing.

VOILA !
Programming Successful !

Regards
John

I have the same problem, I probably don't understand how it works ... I am connected to CS3, I can test the loco, I retrieve the settings from loco, loco is on the programming track, connected to CS3 programming port. I tried to put it back in the loco and get the message as above.
I put a usb in my CS3 , do I also need a USB in my PC ?
Would love to have some more explanation / help in programming the decoders via CS3.
Thank you.
Erik

Hi Erik
Yes, you do need a (freshly formatted USB memory stick, plugged into the CS3.
Next, you need to load all the four files into it.

Verify your USB memory is plugged into the CS3
Projet39030 Debut programmation.png

Next, you need your loco to be registered by your CS3 and the loco be on the programing track
Next, you need to designate the loco you want to program

Of course, programing a factory-installed sound decoder won't work (they are locked)
When finished you get this screen

Note: you must have the CS3 or CS2 displayed on the screen otherwise nothing happens
Cheers

I don't need any USB memory into the CS3 to upgrade decoder on the track.

Using the latest decoder FW ? or traying to pusch a mSD3 made project into a older mSD decoder ?

The CS3 cannot read project file from USB stick like CS2....
