I thought I’d share with you what I think is a novel use of Z gauge. I am now in my mid-60s and, back in the 1960s, I had my first model railway layout, which was a Marklin HO set. It was well used and abused, and was lost to time after my younger brothers had played it to death. Trying not to be too long winded with this story, my modelling interests over the years have included building 1/6th scale motorcycles, which lead to an interest in 1/6th scale figures. This lead to me to build a 1/6th scale garage diorama, which though originally intended to be a simple photo set for the bikes, ended up being a very detailed project in its own right. The garage, as is often the case in real life, evolved into up man-cave with all sorts of toys in it. I felt it really needed a model railway layout. Harking back to my original Marklin layout with its DB89 O-6-O locos, the obvious choice was Marklin Z Gauge, again with a DB89 loco – a real trip down memory lane. In 1/6th scale, Z gauge at 6.5mm equates very closely to the 7.5mm which G scale 45mm track would be at this size. It’s given me a bit of fun. In the longer term, I’m thinking of making a larger layout, which would be a 1/6th scale model of a garden layout, again using Z gauge to represent G scale. It’s likely to take a while though.

No, they are plastic action figures, fully articulated.

I wish wifey was compliant as that! Did you make all the furniture?

I do architectural models, not often I had to do an internal model, but enjoyed the change.

A 1:100 model from 15 years ago, other than the people and car everything hand made. Floor in timber veneer, bathroom tiles individually masked and spray painted, kitchen bench spay painted from a distance to get speckled finish, mirror doors solar film as acrylic mirror was too perfect a look. Individually made the wine bottles and repurposed some stainless steel etching for the wine rack. Glass bricks scored polycarbonate sheet and back sprayed with mat spray lacquer.

Toosmall, Your model is very impressive. A great deal of what is in my garage is scratch built, including all the wooden furniture.
I have a specific garage album here: Camwader's Garage
