Transformer Control of Marklin 3088 Engine & 1071 Motor

Good Morning,
I have a Marklin 3088 DHG 700C analog diesel engine and a Marklin 1071 electric motor and two separate 6667A 16VAC Marklin transformers. Are both transformers needed to control the variable speed of the Marklin 3088 diesel engine and the 1071 motor or is there a control box that would enable one to toggle back and forth just using one transformer?
