I'll be in Copenhagen Friday 30 June to Sunday 2 July.
Can anyone recommend a train shop (Märklin, obviously...) with lots of floor stock (I want to see the stuff).

Cheers,
Damon

I can find this address, but I don't know if it is still there. I found it in the Märklin Z Mini-Club center guide. And if there is Märklin Z, there is also HO.

I can recommend two (the two I use frequently):

Togcenter Gentofte
Kildegårds plads 5
2820 Gentofte
http://www.togcenter.dk/

Lots of new stuff, and a big second hand area downstairs.
Open monday to friday 12:30 - 18:00 and saturday 10:00 - 14:00

Kystbanen
Strandvejen 140 C
2900 Hellerup
http://www.kystbanen.dk/

Only new stuff, but plenty of it.
Open tuesday to friday 13:00 - 18:00 and saturday 10:00 - 14:00

I’m agreeing with Michael. They are both are good shops.

You may have a nice trip to Copenhagen.

Maybe we´ll meet there, as I am going to visit the shop in the middle of augost. ;-)

I usually pick up some second-hand things, but this year I might go for the new V80, if they have it...

Maybe a little off topic, but have all shops in Denmark such short opening hours on saturday (and during the week)?

Here in Belgium they are open from 9h or 10h untill about 17.00 hours, and I still think they should be open longer AND on sundays...

If you didn't find it yourself on their webpage, then here is what the shop looks like, both on the outside and the inside:

And here is a roadmap, so you have a better chance of finding them (I hope this link works):

Thanks Mikael for the map...I guess the Bernstorffvej station is the best.

Henrik, we'll be in København from 29 June to 2 July, not August...[:(]
If you want to meet up, email me. That goes for any CPH Märklin fans.

We don't have a lot to offer MRR-wise, but we could chin-wag a bit over a Tuborg or seven, since I lived at Bækkeskovvej in Brønshøj for about 6 months (when I was about 2 years old...30-mumble years ago), which makes me a local wink

It looks like Friday 30 June is MRR day...we might even get to Togcenter Gentofte, although the large range at Kystbanen is probably the deciding factor.
Saturday 1 July sees us in Roskilde (the Viking Ship Museum) and the afternoon and evening at Tivoli. Note: we've been to CPH twice recently, but Tivoli has been closed for winter, so this time we'll be sure to go...biggrin
2 July is my birthday, so probably spent at Nyhavn drinking beer biggrin and eating at restaurants biggrin, until we fly to Reykjavík.

I'm keen on the new 37667 mfx NOHAB DSB. Also the Luxembourg 37333 Class 3600 (a long story, there...)
I want to acquire these locos in Denmark, for sentimental reasons. The prices at Kystbanen are midway between local Australian/official Märklin prices and Lokshop in Germany. I could order from Lokshop, or buy in CPH and lug them from CPH to Iceland to UK to Japan and back to Australia. Given the circumstances, buying in CPH is the go...wink
Cheers,
Damon

Indeed Bernstorffsvej station is closest, but you still have a bit of a walk from there. BTW, the map is a little off. The shop is at the next corner, at Sigridsvej.

If you want those loks here, you better return to Denmark again later. They are not out yet, and are not expected to appear until after the summer.
I have a 37667 on order, and it seems that it might be needed. The latest rumor is that it is already almost sold out from Märklin, so the shops probably won't get a second chance of ordering more.

We might bump into one another in one of the shops, once I get from work.

Thanks for the heads-up, Mikael -- I didn't even think to check!

For my next trick...[:I]

Looks like I'll just have to buy something else Danish MRR Smile

Let's see. Danish and Märklin..... Of newer material I can think of:

36821. DSB Köf lok.
46906. Freight set with marine scrap.
48546. Tank car set.
47314. Boxcar set.

And currently, there is a large steamer 37846 (DSB Litra N) in the second hand area at Togcenter Gentofte, but chances are that it is gone when you get here.

Or if you really want something that won't be easy to get elsewhere in the world, then what about a lok from one of the danish manufacturers?

A real beauty is Hobbytrades new MZ IV:
http://www.hobbytrade.dk/dk/pro.../lokomotiver/mz/mz.shtml
Available with and without sound. It is a great runner, and very nice finish.

Or the latest new danish lok on the market. A little diesel shunter, DSB MH, from Togmodelle.dk

Great stuff Mikael!!

Do either Kystbanen or Togcenter Gentofte carry stock of these Danish manufacturers?

I explored the Hobbytrade.dk site, but I'm a bit uncertain; does "AC" mean 3-rail (i.e. Märklin) or just an AC decoder? My Danish is non-existant, and babelfish doesn't do Danish...
I see Kystbanen list them as a brand -- do they actually have much on the floor?
Cheers,
Damon

Yes, both shops have both of these models. The MH is very new on the market (a couple of weeks), and is already sold out in the 3-rail version at Togcenter Gentofte. But they should get a new batch next week (if I remember correctly).

But I highly recommend the Hobbytrade MZ.
AC means AC, but is often used to indicate 3-rail. The 3-rail models have either an Uhlenbrock 75320 Andi decoder, or a LokSound 3 with two speakers (the more expensive of those on the list, of course). I have one with sound, and it is great.

You should also be able to find the DSB ME lok, at least at Kystbanen, but probably also the other place. It looks nice, but I've heard that its running characteristics is a bit inferior compared to the MZ:

BTW, here is a video showing the MZ in action. The MH is also in there for a moment.

Yes, I have been wondering about that too.
Unfortunately, I didn't manage to bump in to you that friday you were supposed to go shop. I got called away on a little extra job with short notice [:(]

Thanks Steven and Mikael, and everyone, for the assistance.

We returned yesterday morning (Saturday) after an overnight flight from Tokyo to Sydney to Brisbane, so we're rather jet-lagged at the moment [:(]. Short answer is that the CPH train hunt was highly successful biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I will post a train-oriented holiday report if anyone is interested (including HongKong, Copenhagen, Iceland, Wales, London, and Japan). Is this an appropriate forum? confused

Short summary:
Yes indeed we went to Kystbanen and Togcenter Gentofte! (I have photos to prove it)
Kystbanen was most successful. We chatted at length to the young fellow behind the counter (whose name I forgot to record [:(]). He recommended the Hobbytrade MZ IV, and a couple of Roco DSB goods wagons.

The booty included:
From Kystbanen:
* the previously mentioned Hobbytrade MZ IV with Sound -- truly splendid, and a heap of fun with the sound effects!
* Roco 46991 BP Gas
* Roco 47122 "Cargex" container car
* Hobbytrade 5008 track-side shed
* Noch 15611 "Gardener and tools"
* Märklin 72815 Station Clock
* Viessmann 6393 Lamp from Charlottenburg (I'm assuming the Copenhagen Charlottenburg) -- the Landscape/Scenery Designer (Mrs Kelly) wants a small pine forest with a snow covered clearing where there will be a single old-style street lamp -- I need to source an over-sized lion and 4 English school children. Are walking Fauns and Beavers available in HO?

Togcenter Gentofte was next, but was less enjoyable for us. I most definitely don't want to criticise Togcenter Gentofte, but the guy behind the counter was not as friendly. I assume his English was not very good, and I totally understand that he didn't feel comfortable chatting in English (even worse to Australians with broad accents). Unfortunate for us, but -- as I said -- I don't want to critize TG at all.

We bought:
* Heljan #220 H. C. Andersen's house -- or an HO model of such;
* Busch 1205 Roses and 1206 Tulips

The second-hand store at Togcenter Gentofte was interesting, and I would have bought quite a few items there, but we were getting worried about weight (20kg per person -- the airline managers obviously aren't MRR people wink)

More to follow, if anyone is interested...

Cheers,
Damon

Welcome back home.

And WOW. You certainly got some nice stuff to take home with you. And most likely plenty from the other countries you visited as well [:p]
I think the name of the nice guy from Kystbanen, is Jeppe, but right now I'm not 100% certain [:I]

Once you get over your jetlag, and have the time to spare, it would be nice to hear some more about the trip.

Hi Damon,

I know a thing or two about jetlag,but your itinerary has been quite taxing considering all the places you visited in such a short span of time[:0]

The railroad related part of your journey must have kept you awake biggrin
