the k83 needs too many wires

An outsider.
I'm looking for the owner of that horse. He's tall, blonde, he smokes a cigar, and he's a pig!

Hi alonso,all,

Well I can agree with it as far as C-track is concerned and if you have a non-permenate layout.

But for us K-track users the k83's are the way to go,or should I say the Viessmann 5211's

Hi,

Also for C track the k-83 is cheaper. You can control four switches from it. The under the track decoder is great for carpet layouts, but if you have a lot of switches it runs into money.

Hi Alonso, all,
What I´ve done is to use K-83 in schattenbanhoff (you can´t see them) and C-track specific decoders in places under-the-eye. Any case, K-83 is a cheaper option.
Have fun!

[OK.. this is my second attempt to write this! The first time when I was posting the reply my internet connection failed...]

Hi all,

According to my opinion the k83 is superior as a choice! The 74460 is certainly compact and is easy to install but that's all there is! There's nothing more to it plus it is very expensive! For four turnouts you can buy a k83 (€35.99 at lokshop.de) or four 74460s (€21.47 x 4 = €85.88)!!!

Also, with a k83 you can combine a turnout and a signal into one port of a k83 (turnouts have shunting signals). Thus, when you change the turnout you can have the shunting signal change also. Maybe there's some cabling involved but on the other hand i) cabling is fun and that is the main objective of this hobby, and ii) it gives you the advantage of exploring all the possibilities available!

When I started my layout I was frustrated with having to use cables and soldering, etc etc! Therefore, I have bought 74460s for my turnouts! I was SO wrong ...
