Since I went active again with Märklin Z scale, I've heard this set 8108 Orient Express as being one of the legendary set in Z scale and considered as rare item. I was ready to die without even being able to see one with my own eyes. But as life would have it, someone came to me with his Orient Express, and not only I saw it with my own eyes, but I am also doing a service for the loco and the cars! Who knew that the baggage car has a ballast in it?? Very interesting! So, after it's ready, i did a test run on my layout and, I must admit, this set is indeed a beauty!

Hello, hope all is well.

It is a special feeling when something works out when you least expect it. Good things come your way in Z, just relax, it will happen.

I don’t know how rare it is but it certainly is an exceptional set. I hope you got it performing perfectly, it looks very good to me.

Thanks for sharing. Take good care.

I can't argue with that! 😁

Maybe it is not a rare item elsewhere, but here in Indonesia, I think this set is obviously a rare item. So far, I've only known 2 sets of 8108 around here, one is with a collector in central Jakarta and the other one is with me. There is a Z scale collector in another town, considering his huge collection, I think he has 8108 too. so that makes it only 3 sets of 8108.

Yes. The loco is performing well for an old 3-pole. The cars are also still in good condition and rolls smoothly.

Hello, hope all is well.

Wouldn’t you know as is always the case, as soon as I posted my comments, I opened EBay and this set was listed for big bucks! In fact there were a few going for high money. I have seldom seen this set myself.

I know prices are high now, but if this is an indication or rarity, this must be a special set. Nonetheless, for certain, it is a high quality set.

You may be interested in this zscale price website. It indicates this set is common, so consider their observations accordingly. What may be true in some locations, may not be the case in another.

Take good care.
